XXXXXYXNQYXNXNYXNYXNWN'X'XNNN'XNNNYX'X'NNNNNN'X'X'X'X'X'XNNYYYX'XNX'XNN'X'YYXNwvvvkv I 7 SENIGR CLASS HISTQRY It has often been remarked that history has a peculiar way of repeating itself, and so to a certain extent the history of this class is much like the history of classes which have been given before, and of others which will follow. So, remembering that history to many people is a rather dull subject except to those who have taken part in it personally, the history of the class of 1947 will be as brief as possible, and will touch upon those subjects which are of significance not only to the class but to others. According to the findings of students of educational statistics, it is obvious that the coming together of any Sophomore Class of a High School represented selected and quality mate- rial. This is true even in those few cases where the individuals are coming against their own will and to please someone else. For various reasons the members of the incoming class of September, 1944, represented, we believe, a particularly promising group. Wie believe we are safe in asserting that all of this entering class would be worthy of special mention of some kind, if time permitted us to make a note of their special qualities of sturdy charac- ter, genius and personality. Early in our Senior High School life, a class organization was formed and the following oflicers selected by way of class leadership: Sophomore Year:- President-Donald Sweimler. V ice-President-Paul LeV an. Secretary-Eugene Hull. These have been succeeded from time to time at our annual elections as follows:-and it is not without good reason, as you may well guess, that a number have succeeded themselves several times-Paul LeVan, Roy VVeinhold. and Phoebe Zechman have served in their re- spective offices in our junior and Senior years. VVe believe that the experience gained and the leadership developed will be of decided ad- vantage in the years to come. How often it happens that men and women of affairs who have taken their places in the world are recalled to have been officers in their class groups at school or in a class activity. Socially, our activities have been all that could be expected of us and, perhaps, all that it was wise for us to undertake without infringing upon the more serious business of class- room, study hall, laboratory and workshop. Among the outstanding social affairs to which we will all look back with happy memories are doggie roasts, hikes, dances, Senior class plays and the Prom. And last, but not least, our Commencement and Class Night activities. Besides this, not a few of our class have had time and energy for other things, and have shared in the work of the Chorus, Band, Y.NV.C.A. and Y.M.C.A. The Class of 1947 has clearly held its place in the sun. However, we have visioned clouds upon various occasions, as well, and at this time, we would voice our sorrow that it has been 29
