Imago I946 SENIOR CLASS HISTQRY Classmates-Here, freshly revised anzl rearranged, is an attempt to tell, truly and clearly, the tales of our happy school days. We passed, quickly, through the elementary grades and looked forward with much anticipation to the day when we would climb the stairs to high school. That long awaited day came in September 1940. On our first day upstairs, we went to room 27, which was to be our homeroom for four additional years. Mr. Bright, who was to bring us through our first tedious year of high school, was our advisor. We elected class officers for the first time in our history. They were: President ............... .. .,..,....... Marvin Schonour Vice President ...,.... .,.,......r.,.,............. M ary Powers Secretary .,...........,.........,,.,..,..,...........,.,.,,.,, ....,,.,...... A nna Mae Plowfield Seventh grade was, indeed, a new experience for us. We had our first social event in the form of a Hallowe'en party, which was held in the auditorium on Mon- day, October 28, 1940. When we returned for our second year, we, again, found Mr. Bright, our faculty advisor. Our first important business was to elect officers which were: President ....,..,,.....,.....,..,,.,......,................,,,,........................ Mervin Sweigart Vice President ........,, . .....,,.,......,,........... Ralph Lutz Secretary .....,...,...,.......,,,.,....,......,.......... ...,..i,...,. ..... A n na Mae Plowfield Our first event for the year was a doggie roast held at Hallacher's bungalow. We, also, held a puppet show that same year. In our freshman year we found we had a new faculty advisor, Miss DeTurck, in Room 21. Our class officers for this year were: President .....,.....,,.........,....,,...,...............,,.,.. .,.. .,,..,...., ...... J a m es Matthews Vice President .......,,.., ................ R ichard Stump Secretary ................,..........,...............,.,. .....,.....,..,,,.,.. A nna Mae Plowfield During the course of the term, our President left school to join the Navy and our Vice President left school to work. We elected new officers to fill their places. They were: President ,.,..,.,...,,... .... .. Richard Showalter Vice President ...,,,....., .........,.,,, D onald Kuser I m a g 0 I 9 4 6 Senior Class History - Continued Our social event for this year was, again, a doggie roast held at Egelman's Park. The high light of our Freshman year was our Commencement promotion to the Senior High School. When we returned for our Sophomore year, we found that one of our new teachers, Miss Glase, was to be our advisor, back in Room 27. Our officers for our Sophomore year Were: President .,..,..,....,.., .l... .......... A l len Fitterling Vice President .l....... ...,,......4,.,,.,.,4,,4 R ichard Hill Secretary ..,,.. , l..,4,,..4....4,...,.......,......l...,..........,.l.......... Anna Mae Plowfield Our important business this year was our class rings-which, after much delay, arrived in February. This is the year we secured our theme song: Let's Get Lost due to a few missing people on a biology field trip, which will never be forgotten. Our social event this year was a doggie roast which was held at Egelman's Park. In our Junior year, Miss Glase, again, became our faculty advisor. Officers for the year were: President ,........,... .......,..,,.........,.. Paul Zellers Vice President ....iii,i ....,...... R ichard Showalter Secretary .....,....,......,.,..i..,....,........,.,........,............,,..................i... Betty Snyder As Juniors, we were allowed extra social privileges. They were two dances and a class play. Our first dance, The Snow Frolic was held December 7, 1944. This dance proved the Juniors' ability as decorators. The profit from this dance was S84.00. Our second dance was the Emanon dance which, also, boosted the class treasury. The Junior play, Shrubbery Hill , given this same year, was a success. The profit made on this play was S130.00. Our social activities for that year were a combined doggie roast and skating partyg also, a hayride, with the Seniors of 45 , as our guests. With fond memories We departed from our Junior year With many plans for our Senior year. Imago I946 We began our Senior year under the advisorship of Mr. Steckel. Our business for the first day was the election of officers which are: President ,...r......t...., ...,................... P aul Zellers Vice President .....r.... .,........ R ichard Showalter Secretary ...................... , ..r..............,..,......., ,,.,si,,..s.s, ...,.....,.,.....,. B e tty Snyder We turned our thoughts to our class activities. Our first plan was for a doggie roast held at Egelman's Park. We, also, had a dance, which was held on October 27, 1945, and which was called, Night Owl's Prowl. This year we, also, selected our class colors, which are green and whiteg our class motto, which is We Finish To Begin, and our class flower, which is the white rose. In September, we started plans for the 46 Imagof' This was the biggest job we had ever undertaken. We engaged Ricciardi, as our photographer. On February 14, we held a Valentine dance called the Cupid's Twirl . This helped the treasury. We all looked forward to our big and last dance which was a semi-formal held, for the first time, in our school in many years. We are about to close our Senior Year with Baccalaureate Services in the Re- formed Church on May 26. Class night, along with the class play, entitled Board- ing School , is to be on May 21. Finally, one of the most important days in our life, Commencement, is scheduled for May 28. As we turn our life to the outer world we shall never forget the happy days which we, the class of 1946, spent together at Sinking Spring High School. We finish to begin. I m a go I 9 4 6 SENIGR CLASS WILL We, the Seniors of the Sinking Spring High School, being as sound in mind and body as can be expected as a result of the schedule so rigidly followed, leave this, our first, last, and only Will and Testament. To the Faculty we leave: To Miss Fukang a cone of ice cream for the next World Series and, also, a better aim . To Miss DeTurckg a more intelligent group of Geometry students. In witness whereof we have hereunto set our hands and seals this twenty-eighth day of May, A. D. 1946. CLASS OF 1946 QSEALJ Imago I946 CLASS PROPHECY In the year of 1956 the reunion of the Class of 46 was scheduled at the home of Mrs. Leon Strause, the former Anna Mae Plowfield. Their estate was in back of Wer- nersville at a place known as Byndenwood-the estate was surrounded with adjoin- ing buildings, swimming pool, lovely riding stables, and tennis courts. Bette June Snyder, our Class Secretary, sent out invitations to all the members of the class. Anna Mae's butler, James, answered the door. The first couple to arrive were Bette June Snyder and Phyllis Leiby. Bette is now a gym instructor for girls' bas- ketball and is well on the way toward having a champ team. Phyllis is the one who planned the big dinner for all of us. She is one of the noted Home Economists in this country. James showed them to the mistress' library and they started to talk over old times. They were not seated more than five minutes when they heard the chatter of Duke Hallacher, Paul Zellers, and Ethel Yenser. Duke is now a cartoonist in the big city of New York, working for The Journal- American. Paul Zellers, our class President, is a mortician and has his funeral home in his home town, Sinking Spring. Ethel Yenser is his secretary. She has been work- ing with Paul for a number of years. Ethel went in and joined Phyllis and Bette. While sitting in the library, we heard talking outside and went to the window to see Showalter, Hill, and Fitterling come walking up the driveway. James showed them in and they joined us and started to tell us about their wonderful basketball teams. The doorbell rang and James opened to greet a messenger boy, with a telegram. Anna Mae opened it and it read: JUST ARRIVED BY PLANE FROM CALIFORNIA AND MET PAULINE AND FAYE AT AIRPORT. MARY-MELROSE James brought Mary and Melrose from the airport. Mary is now a Math teacher in California and Melrose is a nurse, who just came in from China and met Mary. lmago I946 Class Prophecy - Continued Pauline is a Coloratura Soprano star in Carnegie Hall. Faye is a dancer in a large night club. These girls planned to come to the reunion together. Vlfhile we were all gathered in the library, Leona Firestone, Anna Fox, and Ruth Oxenreider arrived. Leona is now one of the outstanding reporters, working for The American News Syndicate. Anna Fox is an astronomist, who has her Planetarium in the Catskill Formation in New York. Ruth Oxenreider is a famous Secretary and has been helping Anna, who has dis- covered a new planet, and named it Foxarius. James escorted all of us to the library and we were talking about Reeser and Ethel Berkenstock. They were not at the gathering, as yet, being late, as usual. We waited 10 minutes, 20, 25, and then the door bell rang. There stood Ethel and Reeserg they were late. Well, as we all know, Reeser is one of the best registered plumbers around. He told us he was delayed at Ethel's Beauty Salon, where he had been called to fix some pipes. Ethel has her Beauty Salon here in town and, indeed, a very successful one. She is noted for her pleasing personality and neatness. James, the butler, then announced dinner. All of us went into the dining room, which was immense and very nicely laid out. Grace was offered by our class Presi- dent, Paul, and then we were served. We had delicious food, for which we can thank Phyllis. After dinner, all of us decided to go up to Anna's planetarium to look at the heavens. The evening ended nicely and all went home, feeling fine and happy that we saw our class mates once more. lmago l946 L I-1 L 1 ASSES JUNIOR CLASS The highlights of the Junior Class started with a doggie roast at Egelman's Park with the members of the class acting as hosts for the Seniors and their guests. The second important step was the selection of the class rings, made early in the school term. This was accomplished by good co-operation among the members of the cheer- leading squad. The squad is composed of five girls and one boy. Anna Mae Grimes, one of the regular cheerleaders, was forced to resign in the beginning of the season due to illness. Two new faces were seen on the squad this year, Alice Zimmerman and Audrey Eyrich. These two girls are an asset to our squad and have been doing fine co-opera- tive work. A substitute cheerleader, Virginia Hiester, was elected to cheer in case the regular cheerleaders were unable to do so. Since five out of six of the Varsity cheerleaders are graduating this year, many of the J. V. Cheerleaders hope to become members of the Varsity Squad.
