The Simpson High School boys’ basketball team for 1962-63 started the season with one regular returning from the previous season. On account of inexperience they lost quite a few of their early games. However, as the season progressed the team moved forward. The season's record was 26 games won and 8 games lost. The Broncos won the championship of District 9-C. They finished second in the sectional meet at state champions, in the quarter finals. Butch Martin was selected on the all-district; all-Southwest; and all-state teams. Donald Turner was selected on all-district second team. Both of these boys graduated. Berkley Pigott, Dale Hillman, Vernell Hillman and a strong bench gave us good prospects for 1963-64. Leesville, Louisiana CONGRATULATIONS, SIMPSON HIGH SCHOOL To the students, patrons, and friends of Simpson High School, we again wish to say HI NEIGHBOR and thanks for your friendly cooperation during the past year. This has been another good year for our tree crop. Mother Nature has been kind to us. With the exception of the tip moth in our pines, our young trees are growing on schedule. We do have one continuing problem, however, which we must tell you about. You have come to know that we believe in fair and square dealings with our neighbors. Hogs are causing excessive damage to our tree crop. Many owners have already gotten rid of their hogs when they learned how much damage these animals were doing. The population of hogs is heavy and they are hurting our tree crop. Most of them are un- marked and unclaimed. From the beginning of our operation in 1957, we have said that pine trees and cattle can live together. They can - and some of our neighbors are proving it. Hogs cannot produce many new jobs for West Central Louisiana and the Simpson Community. Pine trees can and will. FORESTRY DIVISION T. L. JAMES COMPANY, INC. Ruston, Louisiana GEORGE JAMES RED AND WHITE SIMPSON BAPTIST CHURCH Each block of marble cold and bare Contains a Grecian goddess fair, That we may bring into our view, If we remove the residue. Each tray of oils and tube of paints Contains a portrait of the saints; A masterpiece, a wondrous sight, If we apply the colors right. Each dictionary filled with words, Of nouns and adjectives and verbs, Contains such sonnets lovely and rare, If we arrange the words with care. Each little child, no matter who, Contains a soul, immortal too, A soul to shine divinely bright, If we will guide it in the light. -Lynn Copeland.
