We entered high school In 1954 with 52 students, which was by far the largest class in high school. It took us quite some time to get adjusted to the different building, and we scurried about like so many scared rabbits till we finally felt we were a part of it all. We were quite well represented by some of our members, Donnie Ross, Rosemary Parker, Ollie Jo Landrum, and Wanda Parker, being on the basketball teams. We had 48 students in our sophomore year. Wanda Parker was voted prettiest girl in high school and Rosemary was elected F. F. A. Queen. Ollie Jo entered an essay-writing contest and won second place in the parish. Then in our junior year we started off with 14. Yes, only 14. The Hicks High School had been completed, and this took about half of our class. By the time a few more had quit or moved, we just hardly had any left. We were the smallest class that had been here in years and years. Soon after school started we began working on our ghost story Junior Play, Hobgoblin House. We had lots of fun with it. Just about the time we gave the play, Jimmy Grantham quit, leaving us with 13. Then Ella Mae Jackson left us, and at mid-term Ronnie Trotti moved to Housion. We had 11 left in our class. Ronnie had been elected F. H.A. Beau and Most Handsome, Wanda was Forestry Festival Queen and Most Athletic Girl, and Delmond Owens was Most Studious Boy. With the help of our sponsor, Mr. F. W. Jackson Jr., we gave the seniors a ban- quet in April. We enjoyed this very much, and the banquet seemed to be quite a success. We had several compliments to the effect that we had the prettiest decorative theme that had ever been used, - that of the Tropics, with a dark blue sky with stars and the moon overhead. Whether or not this was true, it made us feel very proud of ourselves. In this, our senior year, we began the year with a surprising number of 15. To us, such a large number seemed too good to be true, - and it was. One of the new additions quit after coming one day, and before long one of our old originals, Juanita Ward, left us. So, we are back down to 13. The new additions to our class are Doris Owens, who returned after two years at another school, Ruth Wells, a newcomer from Alexandria, and Linda Owens, who returned to finish school after being away for a year. This year Donnie Ross was elected Mr. SHS, and Ollie Jo Landrum, Rosemary Parker, and Delmond Owens were Campus Favorites. Rosemary Parker was chosen Maid of Honor in the Forestry Festival Queen Contest. Maurice Cooley joined Wanda Parker and Donnie Ross on the basketball team, and Ruth Wells and Rosemary were selected as cheerleaders for the Booster Club, which really does a good job. Every member of the class was cast in our Senior Play, The Slow Poke. Our colors were green and white for some time, but we later changed the green to gray-blue. We chose the gardenia for our class flower. A new five-period time schedule was inaugurated this year, which really changed things up, and it seemed rather strange for a while, not to have a study hall, but everyone got used to it after a while, and it seemed to work out pretty well. Our class gives Thanks at our table every day at dinner. We think it would be a good idea for all the classes to do this, and we hope to be able to influence them. Of course, this is not all our class history; some of it is still in the future. But as far as we have come, we have really enjoyed our school life together as a class. We may be few in number, but, as our motto states, The tiny drops at last will wear the stone! SENIOR CLASS HISTORY
