T ' , 1-,taxi ' A , .- - -fa ' A grfu ' V - lf -' FK L .f ,r. 1 ,iv i rr PRESIDENT Paul S. Allen We are an enlightened people. Our modern way of life which is the envy of our world is the result of the enlightenment of mind and emancipation of will which came to the shores of Europe through the preaching of the gospel almost two thousand years ago. Paul preached Christ the Light of the world, and in the wake of that preaching were laid the foundations of western society. What a vast debt we owe to the continents of Asia and Africa, the one the birthplace, the other the refuge, of that Light proclaimed by Paul! These continents, once favored, are now the dark areas of earth. Their people, sleeping for centuries, are now recognizing the dawn of a new day and are demanding their share of the good life enioyed bythe West. If we ever thought we could enjoy our good things to ourselves, that day is past. The Light that brought us our salvation and all its social, economic, and political by-products must be re- flected back to them that they, too, may live. Our GATEWAY is dedicated this year to the spreading of the light. So are the young men and women whose faces you will be seeing in the succeeding pages. Their numbers must increase if the light is to be spread fast enough and far enough. Pray their efforts will not be too little and too late! -Paul S. Allen, President
