This equipment is used in many classes of both iunior and senior high students. Along with this new equipment came a new advanced mathematics course offered to those who are in the commercial field of study and to those beyond the ninth grade who do not wish to take formal math courses such as algebra, plane or solid geometry, and trigonom- etry. The advanced algebra classes are moving toward the honors program which will include cal- culus and analytic geometry. These girls are gaining experiences in the many areas ot home- making which include clothing, foods, home management, child care, health, relationship, and housing. Modernization of this department has been quite extensive this year with the completion ot four completely new kitchens. The Board of Education and RECC equipped the kitchens with the very latest and modern appliances. The Rural Electric Co-operative replaces the appliances each year with absolutely no cost to the local board. Using a dishwasher is eagerly practiced by the members of this newly organized Home Ec Ill Class. Pictured are Dianne Mil- ler, Joan Workman, Arlene Wat- son, Virginia Kruse, Judy Court- ney, Shirley Mills, and Paula Smith. The SK chapter of the Future Homemakers of America are an integral part of Simon Kenton's total homemaking program. The FHA is an organization for girls who are either in homemaking classes or who' have had such classes. The 94 members of this year's chapter have participated in a field trip, cit- izenship week, help to the needy, families together proiects, chili supper, Betty Crocker contest, District meetings, FHA week, scholarship drive, Mother and Daughter Banquet, money making proiects, and a tea for the faculty. Those active in FHA have a real opportunity to use their homemaking skills many times. ' Home proiects are encouraged in each of these areas of the Homemaking Department and again, girls have a real privilege of being co-operative helpers at home through their homemaking skills. g Watch those figures! These delegates were Y-Teen, Tri-Hi-Y, and Hi-Y members from every section of Kentucky. The winners were: Governor, Robert Rich, Simon Kenton, Lieutenant Gov- ernor, Winston Miller, Camargo, Speaker of the House, Susan Kumpe, Beechwood, and Secretary of State, Vicki Bradford, Paris. ln addressing the Assembly Governor Bert T. Combs stated, Young people like you are Kentucky's insurance for the future. Delegates served as members of the House of Representatives and Senate of the Common- wealth of Kentucky. Over 60 bills, dealing with integration in public places, bringing new industries into Kentucky, limiting billboards on highways, etc., presented by the clubs in attend- ance were put before the House and Senate, discussed, voted upon, defeated or passed, and some vetoed by the Governor. All bills passed, will probably come before the regular State House and Senate for consideration sometime this year. Those elected to office and other delegates to the Youth Assembly are striving with the help of Mr. Litchfield, head of the statewide Y Club activities and the annual Kentucky Youth Assemb- ly, to be capable and well trained leaders of tomorrow. Much activity goes on at the Assembly. John 3:17 - The Simon Kenton Christmas Pageant this year left all students and visitors with a warm feel- ing inside. The Mass Band and Glee Club played and sang several religious numbers and some old Christmas fav- orites. The Simon Ken- ton Rhythmic Choir act- ed out the verses of the Lord's Prayer as sung by Elaine Satchwill. I20 The primary purpose of the White Christmas program is to enoourage Christian fellowship and good Will. Every year all homerooms and sev- eral school clubs donate boxes of food to or- phanages and other in- stitutions. These boxes, Wrapped in plain white paper, are brought forth at a designated time at each Pageant. This helps to implant in all minds the idea it is better to give than to receive.
