HISTORY OF CLASS OF '49 GRADE NINE In the year of 1945, 88 of us embarked upon a high school career. We had picked up George Meiman, Thomas Berkemeier, and Ellen Nelson. May of 1946 our green year was over, we had finished one-fourth of our high school education. GRADE TEN ln September of 1946, the sophomores numbered 86. Betty Snape had come from Walton, Ellen Dumbacher from LaSalette, and Penny McNees from Morgan to join our blooming class. We lost one classmate, Betty Tattershall, who left us to go to another school. That year four- teen of our classmates found 'other desired places besides school. In May when the Seniors of '47 were graduating, we had just reached our half-way mark. GRADE ELEVEN As Iuniors, 72 of us started in 1947 and it won't be long until We get that much wanted diploma. Some other additions to our big family were Stanley Hager from Ludlow, Ioan Kramer, and Lota Walter who proved to be our class Valedictorian. William Iustice who had dropped back one grade was also with us. Three of the outstanding events of that year were: the Iunior Class play, the Iunior-Senior picnic and the Iunior-Senior Prom. Now we were ready for our big year. GRADE TWELVE ln September, 1948, 67 dignified seniors were well on the way in their high school days. We had lost Winona Turner as Mrs. Russell Coppage, Ellen Nelson, Betty Pitcher, and Billy Iustice during the summer months. A short time after, we again embarked upon our school careerg we lost IoAnn Moffett to be Mrs. Thomas Kerr. At Thanksgiving our class became smaller still when Carrie Easton as Mrs. Fairest Green showed her preference for married life above school, Since we had gained two new students, Ioan DeVan and Norma lean Easton, we had lost none in number. We were now immensely enjoying the privileges of a senior, when another of our girls, Audrey Burkhart, preferred the Pots and Pans instead ot her dear school books. Graduation crept quickly upon us and at commencement we received those much awaited diplomas. Page Twenty-Three
