P. T. A. Association l do not ask of any man alive That he knows all the answers. I only ask a great caring- About what happens to human beings and their hopes And then l ask of myself as much as another. --Bona ro W. Overst reet These words express simply and completely the spirit that animated our Founders of the Parent-Teacher Association and the spirit that should be the motivation for all we do today. We need to care greatly about human beings and their hopes. We need to care greatly about the heritage we are leaving for our children. We need to care about these things greatly enough to see to it that our children have a normal home life, that they have abundant educational opportunities, that their physical, mental, and spiritual health is of the best, that they shall be trained to assume responsibility when their turn comes, that they love with a great and abiding love all that is meant by American democracy and work to make it a reality here in this country and elsewhere. We must care enough to make certain that we will not allow in our communities the kind of conditions which make many of our precious young people offenders against the law, that never again will we have a lost generation of eager youth who find that society has little use for their energy and ambitions. Let us extend our great caring for all children, so that together they may be ready and able to create a better world out of what is left of the old one. For a half century, the National Congress of Parent and Teachers has had a great caring for the individual child in the individual home and for all children, all homes, all schools every where. Never was there greater need for intelligent and vigorous action. Are you ready to meet the challenge? The great challenge of today, for parents and teachers is three fold: Let us strive earnestly and unceasingly to make this earth a place where homes may be established in peace and where children may grow to matur- ity without fear. Equally important, let us take upon ourselves the task of educating young people for their responsibilities as of a united world. And in our own communities as well as on a national scale, let us give serious consideration to those social problems that tend to disintegrate the home. If we can meet this challenge we shall bring to fulfillment the ideals and principles envisioned by our organization.. We shall be performing services of incalculable value to our own dear ones, to our communities, to our country and to the world. The officers who have served during the year are: Mrs. Regina Lawr- ence, president, Mrs. Beatrice Wood, Vice President, Miss E. F. Wood, Secre- tary, Miss Katherywe Brown, Asst. Secretary, Mrs. Mozelle Giles, Chairman of the Program Committee, Mr. Hobart Hale and Mr. Earle Diggs, Co- chairmen of the Membership Committee, Mrs. Senorita McGhee, Social and Budget Committee, and Rev. Austin, Publicity Committee. Mrs. Regina Lawrence, Pres.
