Girls' Athletic Club Sponsor, Mrs. S. C. McGhee Most people find truth in the statement, a beautiful body is pleasing to the eye. That is why we, the girls at Simmons take pride in the honor of participating in physical activity. When l write the word beautiful l don't mean the version Hollywood fashion designers. Most of us couldn't be beautiful in those terms, no matter how hard we tried. l mean the beauty gained by the development of our physical features. Mrs. Senorita McGhee, as director of the girl's physical education de- partment expresses a desire to develop a more well rounded program in the future. Brotherhood Program On Feb. ll, l948 a Brotherhood Program sponsored by the Civic Com- mittee of Montgomery, Dr. R. A. Meode, President, was held in our audi- torium. It was most impressive and one of inspiration. lt was as follows: Opening remarks, James Johnson, Pres. of the Student Council, Prayer by George Lane, a member of the Junior Class, Response, Lord, I Seek Thee Heavy Laden, after which Holy, Holy, Holy, was sung by the congregation. Mr. John H. Robinson, Principal of Simmons High School was presented by the President of the Student Council, James Johnson. Mr. Robinson stated in his introductory remarks that he believed that tomorrow will bring a better day. Bill Zucchurs, Pres., of Montgomery High School presented the pro- gram. Barbara Hamrich, member of the Sophomore Class, of Montgomery High School sang Trees by Joyce Kilmen, she was accompanied by Jane Rutherford. The evolution has to come. The youth of today, the citizen of tomorrow believe that intelligence, understanding and cooperation will help to bring about this evolution. Ben White, member of the Student Council of Montgomery High School, sang America the Beautiful. James Johnson, President of Simmons High School Student Council, presented Mr. Beverly Shepherd, who directed the band while they played ldle Fancy CSerenadeJ by Harold Bennett. After this well played selection, Dr. R. A. Mead, President of the N. A. A. C. P. delivered remarks that were most commendable. Dr. Mead stated that he is hoping that the Brotherhood Program will become an annual event. This is a day that we shall remember at Simmons. We hope that the classes that follows l948 will keep this spirit of Brotherhood awake in America a land of the free for all.
