It is these men and women who raise the average of humanity, and by their words and deeds brighten the world about them. Such a man was our ovm distinguished teacher, Professor Carl E. Bickcom, and the Simmons family is proud to claim him as her son. And honor his memory in this statement hte so often loved to read by Alfred Lord Tennyson: Twilight and evening bell, and after that the dark, and may there be no sadness of farewell, when I embark. .1 Dedication ' 1 A iwfiafeegrsmss ,. To the memory of Mrs. I-I. M. Sanders, we the Senior class of 1964, with great pleasure, dedicate this yearbook. Mrs. Sanders was for eleven years the Senior Class sponsor and Language-Arts instructor here at Simmons High School. During this time, she proved that the characteristics of a good teacher includes: honesty, sincerity, humility, insight, compassion, and a genuine benevolence as well as academic ability. For this reason, we dedicate our first annual since 1946 to her memory. 2 Q 1 'H F fps LQ V4.5 if . , M, ,.v- .. N '14 . Q, girl'- 5 ...ll Us 1 1 ' w A MESSAGE TO THE STUDENTS by Principal T. R. Sanders I believe that the class of 1963-64 should be commended for their many untiring efforts in making this annual possible. I truly hope that their achievements will serve as an inspiration to others as long as Simmons High School stands as an institution of higher learning. I know that the time is growing close, at which time, these young people must lay down for all time the school work they carried on for so many happy years. We call this Commencement, but completion would be a more appropriate term. But, still, that would not be in-keeping with the life at Simmons, for in this institution everything that marks an end, also marks a beginning. The end for this group should serve as a beginning for future groups. I hope that this group will continue like a tree. The tree blossoms, bears fruit, sheds its foliage, and immediately begins preparation for another crop. We are all modern pioneers although we frequently hear expressed the statement, that pioneering days are over, that all the land and water has been discovered, all the wilderness explored, all the great machines invented. That is not true. Certain things have been accomplished but many more remain to be done, and you are the ones to do them. Education here may never cause all of your names to appear among the list of millionaires, or in the who's who, but neither will their pictures adorn the walls of public buildings under the heading: Reward for Capture. I take this time to express appreciation to all students and teachers responsible for this publication. yf, . 3 I 254552 'nf Y ' t 9 'uRQnw LVM 1 ex, 1 Q X , ig :Q Q F' Q1 71 in 'J ,f-' ' 'V .qi A .1 bf' cjlgj 'ily am...g?5 M . : EEE ziz '-U'wu'Www X ., My 4,1 . A Message to the Seniors Each year as another Senior Class graduates I am reminded of a motto I once heard, We finish to begin. No truer words exist for a group such as you For t l . ru y you are finishing to begin. You are terminating your high school education here at Simmons High School to begin anew at the task by either enrolling in some institution of higher learning or by enrolling for further courses in the universal school of life with its many vicissitudes and ram'f' ' 1 ications. Which ever your school remember: . . . A little learning is a dangerous thing. 1 6 w if H, A -f A N , Q umwpl Q Wu m MH - T wwnw HM Wu HM' 1 ,,,u..:,, Q? w 1 f 1 , 1 ilk?
