Gregg, grooming and Under 1 N 1902, one of the four original schools of Simmons College was the School of Secretarial Studies, later called the School of Business. In 1902eas now- rhe school aimed to educate its students with a thorough training in shorthand, typing, ofiice machines, bookkeeping, accounting, business law, ofiice man- agement, marketing, personnel, finance, and advertising together with a broad background of academic and 7 1 Ki' . 6. 06 on ,Lf '2 f 7 I fy, 4 i 'P 'Ill l fr' 2 cultural subjects such as English, history, psychology, science, economics, and foreign languages. The founders of the college realized what time has proven to be true- that a well-rounded academic education has a definite advantage for the business woman-the secretary, stenog- rapher, or bookkeeper. The school aims at developing the personal qualities of initiative, capacity for sound judg- ment, and ability to face responsibility. Students with these qualities should be able to advance rapidly to execu- tive or administrative positions. Dr. Samuel jesse Lukens is the Director of the School of Business.
