You, the class of 1966 have completed your High School learning period here at Sirnley. You are the first complete product of Simley High School. It has been interesting to ob- serve your growth during these last six years. Although high school has been only one step in the walk through life, I hope that we have prepared you to work diligently, to think objectively and to act wisely. Your presence here and your constructive actions have made for a stronger foundation upon which Sirnley is built. MR. VERNON S. Debate in the House 30 Discussion of Bills, i l l Senate House Hearing. This year the seniors of 1966 engaged in an exercise in civil government by taking part in a congress held during the senior social classes. The group was divided into the House of Representatives and the Senate With Mr. Mergens, Mr. Boyle, and Mr. Bot- temiller acting as a triumvirate president. Officers were elected and the session ran under congressional rules. Bills were argued, hearings held, filibusters carried on, and generally an accurate picture of the basis processes which take place in the national government was presented, giving this year's seniors a vivid picture of what they may face after they grad- uate. A-N-xg, HOMECOMING I965 l965 Homecoming began in suspense as all Simley awaited the coronation of a queen who was chosen from a field of five lovely candidates: janet Wil- liams, Barb Mascaro, Heidi Denton, Sandi Pesek, and Peggy Waldhauser. Finally on Thursday the time came and, as the choir sang and the band played, janet was chosen to reign over the festivi- ties. Afterwards, the crowd moved outdoors as the cheerleaders managed to rouse several hundred shouts at the bonfire. Friday came and the Spartans proved they had the power to Punish the Pussycats as they defeated the Farmington Tigers 19-7 in only the second Spartan Homecoming victory on record, and then came the dance. The Fragments played, the deco- rations were lovely, and the dancers enjoyed themselves fully. The Fragments and the cheerleaders gave us the beat, the football team and the Queen set the mood, the Alumni made their pilgrimage, and a good time was had by all making l965 Homecoming Simley's best yet! 41 THE IN RY OF NN FRAN Forgive me ifl don't stay. Slowly the lights fade up. . .After a moment the door at the foot of the stairway swings open. Mr. Frank comes up the stairs. . And thus it began, the touching story of a young girl, her family and four friendsg forced to hide from the Germans in war-torn Amsterdam. The now famous pages of Anne Frank's diary revealed to us the hard- ships and torture that these eight persons, who lived for two terrifying years in a small upstairs apart- ment, suffered. Yet, they also revealed the Wonder- ful story of Anne's search for, and discovery of, herself, her uncovering of hope and faith in people and her generous gift of that hope and faith to Peter who so desperately needed it. The moving performance painted a portrait of the tragedy from first to last acts, dabbing the canvas with fear, gaity, hope, despair, cruelty and faith. . . And once again in the true spirit of Christmas the story was told of the babe in the manger. To the accompaniment of the choirs and orches - tras, Mr. Drexler re- told the story as has been done for ages past. And there Went out a decree from Caesar Augustus that all the World should be taxed. . And so it came to pass that the Voice of the choir rang out in harmony and the band rejoiced in music. And our new junior Miss of 1966 - Linda Pieperl Linda broke into happy tears as the crown was placed on her head.
