President Mr Edward Irons, Vice-Prcsiflerit I-rank Jones, Clerk-1 reasurer l'om Staley John Reese Thurman Tidd SILVERCREEK TOWNSHIP SCHOOLS D. M. Dolphin, Supervising Principal Office Telephone 43392 JAMESTOWN, OHIO To the Students: One who makes up his mind to take charge of his own life and works daily at personal improvement has found the secret of making his life worthwhile. Determine to plan and be at your best. The test of your intelligence is your ability to take hold of your own life just as it is. Know yourself. Make an estimate of your situations. Consider the circumstances of your birth, your childhood, your home life, your wealth or lack of wealth, the influence of the neighborhood in which you live, your friends, your skills, your limitations and your points of strength. You will find shortcomings which you can correct, handicaps which you must accept and of which you must make the best. But begin. Act. Do something. Things that seem difficult at first will become easy. Rise above your failures. Excellence cannot be reached by merely looking for defects. Exchange your Wishbone for a backbone. The real building of a life or a machine or a social system is the result of positive thinking and constructive action. It cannot be built by the wrecking crew. It requires energy, goodwill, initiative, planning. A planless life is like a ship without a compass. It gets nowhere because it lacks direction. Consider what you desire to be and to accomplish. Give sustained atten- tion to the great decisions- religion, occupation, marriage, the choice of a home, avocation. Learn from your weaknesses and mistakes. Study the lives of others. Note what helped them most, what hindered them. Look at your life as a whole. Thinking of your expected seventy years in ten year periods. Predict the achievements of each decade. Include pro- vision for each phase of your life. Revise your plan as conditions change. Careful and con- stant planning is the way to security, happiness, and freedom. Wuzzef fa ffm MRS. LEILA F. CLASS PROPHECY In the year 1960, we find Helen Durham married to David Leslie, residing on their large country estate near Jamestown. They have acquired one of the most fa- mous interior decorators, Bette Jean James, who was an old schoolmate of Helen's to redeco- rate their house. When Bette arrived, instead of getting busy right away, she and Helen started talking about their old schoolmates. Helen: What is Mable doing these days, I have not seen her since graduation? She was such a nice schoolmate. Bette: She is in New York City right now. She has her own beauty shoppe on Fifth Ave- nue. Oh! yes, I received a letter from her the other day and she said that Jane Thuma was in her shoppe last week. Remember she was always getting her hair cut short, and even though the style has changed she still keeps her hair short. She was on her way to Vassar College, where she is a Latin professor. Helen: That reminds me I got a letter from Nancy last week. She is the editor for the Los Angeles Times Star. She said that Jim Fer- guson is the sports editor for the same paper. Nancy said in her letter that Jim wrote a sports article about Bob Grice signing up with the Brooklyn Dodgers and how well he has been playing in all the games. Bette: I heard the other day that Billy Harri- son is a salesman for the American Pencil Co. and that he just delivered the Juniors at Silvercreek a year's supply. On the way down to your house I passed Bill Allbright's farm of 350 acres. With Nancy's encouragement he is doing very well. Helen: Yes, I saw him the other day in town. He had his two sons with him. Russel Allen doesn't live very far from us either. He owns a big farm east of Jamestown. He married Janet Garringer. You remember they went to- gether when we graduated. Bette: I saw Mary Suttles the other day in Day- ton and she is a private secretary for Duri- ran Co. She and Johnny are married and live in Dayton. By the way, doesn't Norma Brown Knisley work in an office at the National Cash Register Co.'l Helen: Yes, they live in Jamestown and I heard that they have a little girl. Oh, I suppose you know that Evelyn Jean Evans lives close to me, on their farm of about 1,000 acres. Bette: And what is Wilda Knisley doing now? Helen: She is a secretary of the Crowell Pub- lishing Co. in Springfield. Robert Baker is the owner of the Toni Manufacturing Co. in Chicago, Ill. Bette: Oh yes, I heard that Lila Madge Wilson is an opera singer and has her own studio in New York City. Oh yes, and Mildred is a telephone operator in Vacaville, California, and is married to Charles Knecht. Helen: Yes, I remember about her writing to Charles so much in high school. I also heard that Clarence Gifford is a head mechanic at Lang's in Xenia. Bette: Yes, I stopped in there yesterday and he worked on my car. While I was waiting, I saw Mary Evelyn Glass Stanforth shopping in Milton's. They live in Xenia. Helen: Keith Seslar has a used car lot in Columbus on Main St. I wonder if he is married? I haven't heard much about him since he was in school. And by the way, Rich- ard Matthews owns the Cudhay Milk Co., where we sell our milk. Bette: And where is David Swearingen? Did he ever get married to Barbara Haines? Helen: Yes, and he owns a barber shoppe in Akron, Ohio. I saw Betty Scott Jones in Dayton when I was shopping Saturday. She has a little girl and a boy and lives in Osborn. Ohio. Bette: And Hazel Sprinkle has made an appoint- ment with me to decorate her home in Ross Township. She has a lovely home and works as a photographer at the Gold Tone Studio in Springfield. Helen: I almost forgot, I got a letter from Sally Franklin last week and she is married to a rancher and lives in Wyoming. Their ranch con- sists of over 2,000 acres. Dorothy Pitzer Staf- ford was down last weekend and said that she is a hostess in an exclusive tea shoppe in Cin- cinnati, Ohio. They recently built a new home in White Oak. Bette: And Russel Newton is the owner of the Metropolitan Clothing Store in Dayton. Helen: Remember Ronnie Kavanagh who re- joined us in the Senior year. I-Ie is a preacher in the New Jasper Church. Bette: Well, I believe that's all the news about our classmates and we had better be getting started on the decorating.
