Paul A. Squarcia Superintendent of Schools 9. . John J. Aherne Director of Secondary Education 18 TO MEMBERS OF THE CLASS OF 1985: The Silver Lake Regional School District hopefully has provided for members of the graduating Class of 1985 an academic foundation that will enable each member ofthe class to adjust to the challenges that you will be facing in the years ahead. This was accomplished through the efforts of many people associated both formally and infor- mally with your educational process. Theodore Roosevelt was quoted as saying, A sound body is a first class thingg a sound mind is even a better thingg but the thing that counts most in the individual as in the nation is character, the sum of those qualities which make a man a good man and a woman a good woman. This foundation is a combination of the goodness and kindness that we should share with each other if our society is to improve. lf each day you can achieve that goal then you can be proud of such an outstanding accom- plishment. May each of you accept my heartfelt congratulations and best wishes. Sincerely, ' U ' .2 Z l a,oCc4x SQ-J ,74- Paul A. Squarcia Superintendent of schools TO MEMBERS OF THE GRADLIATING CLASS OF 1985: You the Class of 1985 are very special to me. As fresh- men, you were the first group of Silver Lake students that l had the pleasure to serve. Your enthusiasm, talent, and diversity have served as a constant reminder to me of the great potential that you embody. May the knowledge and maturity that you have gained help you to confront the challenges and responsibilities of the future. lt is important that each of you recognize that your contributions as an individual to society are important and can make a differ- ence in making this world a better place to live. My congratulations and best wishes to all members of the Class of 1985. . John J. Aherne Director of Secondary Edu- cation

TO THE MEMBERS OF THE CLASS OF 1985 A famous educator, Horace Mann once stated, A human being is not, in any proper sense, a human being till he is educated. He infers that much of our growth is not what we acquire by special subjects, but also in our develop- ment of emotions, skills, senses, and values. You have encountered many obstacles in your quest for education, and in most cases you have prevailed. The foundation you have built over the past twelve years of formal education will serve as a strong base from which you may continue to grow intellectually and humanely in the future. As my first graduating class, you hold a special place in my heart. As you remember, last September you were told that you possessed more potential than any class with which l have been associated and you continually have reinforced this opinion all year. I wish you all of the happi- ness and success which you deserve and hope that each of you reaches your full potential. ff ,Ji - John M DeLorenzo John F McEwan William L.
