This was accomplished through the efforts of many people associated both formally and infor- mally with your educational process. Theodore Roosevelt was quoted as saying, A sound body is a first class thingg a sound mind is even a better thingg but the thing that counts most in the individual as in the nation is character, the sum of those qualities which make a man a good man and a woman a good woman. This foundation is a combination of the goodness and kindness that we should share with each other if our society is to improve. lf each day you can achieve that goal then you can be proud of such an outstanding accom- plishment. We fielded a young team with little varsity playing experience. Our pitching staff im- proved greatly, so we are looking for a much better season in '85 from them. The team play- ed hard and gave it their best. Our big game of the season was the Hnal one of the year. We defeated Plymouth-Carver and put them out of sole first place. Leading this experienced team in 85 will be senior captain, Joe Noonan, who in 84 was undefeated in the 100 yard dash, and is the league champion. There are other outstanding athletes to watch for in 1985 such as Craig Doherty in pole vaulting, Mike Lopes and Steven Crays in the hurdles, Dave Corkery and Jim Ferris in the javelin, Bob McNair and John Lalley in the 2 mile, Jim Manning in the discus, Tom Moylan in the triple jump, and Sean Tier- nan in the high jump. For the first time in years, the Lakers will have superior athletes in all areas of the team. The Sprinters will be led by fCapt.J Eileen Ward and Sophomore Katie Quinn. Middle and Long Distance Runners, including tCapt.l De- nise Mulkern, Michelle Coyne, and fCapt.l Lauren Young, should lead a successful Laker Track Contingent. Once again, the field events will be strong for the Lakers. Singles players were Bobbi Tibbetts, first, Mary Twohig, second, and Susan McGrale, third. Scott Newell and Ed Doucette will co- captain the 1985 Lakers. who will try to keep a winning tradition alive. but will be the only re- turning starters. Although the team lacked the efforts of Christine Glass and Stephanie Murphy due to injury, the team continued to have depth. Outstanding per- formances by junior Laura Windmill, sopho- mores Lynda Smethurst. Tammy Graham and Michelle Swist, and freshmen Michelle Peter- son, Marianne O'Donnell and Andrea Kelley who all show promising potential for a cham- pionship season in 1985. The leadership of 1 1 seniors was a ma- jor factor in the team's success ac- cording to Coach Mills. He is referring to co-captains Pat Lydon, Dave Marani, Jeff Mclver, and Jim Pierce, as well as seniors Mike Keegan, John McDo- nough, Kevin McKee, Tom McMorrow, Jeff Peterson, Bob Sherman, and Mike Toler. The team, with a 13-3-2 season record - good for second place behind Weymouth-North in the OCL, came a long way especially under a new coach. Since Coach Mills came on the scene some team changes have taken place. A much more disciplined team with a positive winning attitude was to be ob- served. The boys advanced to the State Toumey and defeated New Bedford in an exciting double overtime game which raised their record to 15-5. Seniors on the team included co-capt Keith Andrews, Rich Arieta, Bernie Hendriksen, Mark Hendriksen, Kevin Johnson, Joe Noonan, and co-capt Rob Vickers. Although Coach Arieta will loose these fine players to graduation, this year's juniors dis- played incredible potential. BASKETBALL CHEERLEADERS The 1985 basketball cheerleaders were never without a smile this sea- son, and the team never gave them reason not to keep this spirit up. Se- nior co-captains Kristin Ness and Carole Saconne kept the squad busy learning new cheers, and these made the squad fun to watch. Cheerleaders from the senior class included Diane Anderson and Cheryl Cole. Juniors Nancy Morissey, Lisa Randolph, and Andrea Wickens, and sophomores Theresa Breen, Nina Carmichael, Erin Clasby, Jacqui Davis, Vicky Glauben, Jenn Lassige and Robyn Perkins also helped cheer on Silver Lake to many victories. The girls were coached by Mrs. Pimental who spent many hours willingly helping them. 161 Girls' Basketball The Silver Lake girls' basketball team is depending on the skills of its returning seniors to produce another successful season. Senior co-captains Tanya Woodall and Lauren Young will be called upon to duplicate last year's one-two scoring punch. This dyna- mic duo will also key the teancious Laker pressure defense. Co-captain Ginger Lane, the team's premiere rebounder, will also add key offen- sive scoring. Retuming senior Deb- bie Koski's outside scoring talents will be an added offensive bonus. Veteran senior Denise Mukkem, fore- ign exchange student, Johanna ortes, and new comer Andrea Cook will be called upon to play im- portant roles. Juniors M. Carlson, T. Moscato, A Rudolph, K.
