Heraclitus The 1978 Silver Lake Torch, much like Hera- clitus ' wisdom, is concerned with attuning two distinct yet related campuses. In order to accom- plish this, the yearbook has kept each campus separate but stressed the bond created between campuses through similar activities. We, the yearbook staff, feel that this year ' s theme, Marching Towards Excellence, accurately reflects both the yearbook ' s and the school ' s concern with integrity. EDITOR ' S MESSAGE This year everything has been geared toward the future. The future is a tough subject to comprehend, yet we must prepare for it. To prepare for the years ahead we must do things today. The present is our most valuable tool in building a strong future, and how we build now will affect us later in some way. What we do with the present is entirely our own decision: We can work now, we can relax now, we can plan for the future now. We cannot know what we shall be doing, hereafter, but we can anticipate what we might be doing years from now. Our goal should be: Live for today in preparation for tomorrow. 68 Laurie A. Kaiser Editor-in-Chief DEDICATION Silver Lake Regional High School boasts a unique housemaster in the person of Mr. Doug- lass Coupe. Mr. Coupe is noted for his dymanic leadership and his ability to instill class spirit. During the past four years he has also provided an example for both students and teachers to imitate. His smile often lights up the hallways and his much sought-after advice has solved many student problems. We, the class of 1978, would like to say, Thanks, Mr. Coupe, for helping to make this class the success it has been. 69 CLASS HISTORY 9th grade . . . itty bitty freshmen . . . double sessions . . . home- room in the gym . . . There now seem curious incongruities attached to their lives, and answers, as elsewhere in life ' s circumstances, seem harder to come by. But why? Many young men and women have, after all, performed ad- mirably. The Class of 1978 has seriously reflected its educational background and hopefully will con- tinue to do so in all future endeavors. I would like to extend my personal best wishes for suc- cess and good fortune. Sincerely yours. e ' 4 Housemaster ' s Message While your days at Silver Lake were limited compared to a lifetime, we have endeavored to do our very best to prepare you for the life which you will soon enter. As you embark on your new endeavors, remember that education is a lifelong process. First grade was little less than a traumatic experience. You felt so inferior because you were only a little squirt who didn ' t know any- thing.
