ITZ lW Om JlO wiQMSJisiraL ii YEARBOOK EDITOR ' S IS ! Front Row: Kayce Bright (Business Editor), Joseph Angley (Editor-in-Chief), Judy Bouchard (Literary Editor). Back Row: Debbie Finney (Layout Editor), Gregory Leet (Business Editor). Frank Wojtowicz (Sports Editor), Julie Wyman (Art Editor) Putting this yearbook together took a lot of time, work, compromise. Hurried meetings, and last minute decisions were part of our every day life. For all their fine work, I wish to extend my personel thanks to the editors, and their staffs, for a job well done. To Mr. Govoni, Mr. Bennett and our photographer Pat Conolly, again, Thank You, for your advice, patience, and help. Lastly, to the faculty and students of Silver Lake; may you enjoy the ' 76 TORCH ' , now, and in the years to come, as much as we enjoyed putting it together. ffifuraiijM OS) d) d£) Lisa Lyons Laura Howell Craig Traniello DEDICATION The living members of the Class of 76 , our Bi -Centennial Year, dedicate their yearbook, The Torch , to those members of the class who are no longer with us. Lisa, Laura, Craig and Robin were loved, respected and enjoyed They are still loved, respected and sadly missed. Strange is it not? -- that of the myriads who before us passed the door of darkness through, not one returns to tell us of the road which to discover we must travel too. Khayyam S HIEI MSIRX Francis M. Moran, Superintendent fl Superintendent Francis M. Moran, at the completion of this school year, will have served in public education for forty consecutive and fruitful years. He has served the students and staff of Superintendency Union 31 and Silver Lake Regional School District in admirable fashion. With the formation of the Silver Lake Regional School District in 1955, Mr. Moran served as Vocational Director. He became the Superintendent of Schools at Silver Lake Regional School District and Superintendency Union 31 in August of 1963. He will be completing his thirteenth year as Superintendent of Schools in our school district. During his superintendency, the school district has grown from a student enrollment, K-12, of 3,397 students to 7, 164. To combat this growth, his effective leadership was demonstrated by nine major construction projects involving elementary and secondary schools. He is without any question of doubt, the man behind the scenes making the ed- ucational programs of our school district possible. The students, the staff, the parents and citizens of our four towns wish to extend our most sincere note of appreciation, as well as our wishes for a joyous and long retirement. ife _ X. - SL 2 r f? ± j — gx jgg. Rock Assistant Principal Principal ' s Message In the last fifty years, our way of living has done an aboutface. Now, television beats out books, travel beats out stories about foreign lands, back packs are in and used cars are out as a travel form. Democrats vote for a con- servative Republican president. And yet our schools are to be as of old; the one remaining security blanket in a house turned inside out and around. Little time lies ahead if we are to turn man toward man.. And as painfully small as our efforts against those forces that would tend to separate us. Each of us in our own way must avoid the paths that in the past have offered the se- ductive semblance of safety. Now the directions and the programs must be created to meet the challenge, for there is no alternative. I can only hope that you turn the pages of the Silver Lake Torch so that you can begin to unfold the mysteries and un- certainties that beset you, the student, and perhaps more importantly, so that you can have lasting memories of your school, faculty and friends. _ , I thank you. } f Robert J. Her deck, once red with heroe ' s blood, Where knelt the vanguished foe, When winds were hurring o ' er the Flood, And waves were white below, No more shall fell the victor ' s tread, Or know the conquered knee; The harpies of the shore shall pluck The eagle of the sea!
