Still we feel more could have been done; but, even so, we think this book has many favorable assets. We hope the 73 Torch is pleasing to you. I wish to thank all who contributed their ideas and work. In particular I am indebted to our advisors, Mr. Govoni and Mr. Bennett, who turned a crew of green recruits, like myself, into some passable yearbook personnel. We are all grateful to our photographer, Pat Connolly, who supplied his coopera- tion and talent to give us quality pictures. Now that the ' 73 Torch is completed, I am very proud of what we have done and hope you are too. Editor-in-chief I I want to extend my best wishes to all 1973 graduates. In our four years we have seen many changes, not merely in our school, but in our country the world. We have seen everything from the first men on the moon, to a peace settlement in Vietnam. Let us not forget the good or the bad, so we profit in our success and learn from our mistakes. and may f r i sM jM? He has reached the students on a personal basis. His door is always open; he knows almost everyone by name, and understands our needs. Being a man of outstanding personahty, he has brought to this school a feehng of vitaUty and enthusiasm. He attends many of the school functions and makes it a point to participate actively. Some of Mr. Argenziano ' s favorites are football and basketball games, pep rallies, and dances. At the senior class pancake and sausage supper he helped flip pancakes, and at school dances he gladly per- forms his famous Indian War Dance. Besides having plenty of school spirit, our principal involves him- self in the more concrete aspects of school Ufe. Open campus, the juke box, The History of Rock assembly, and the new class rank system are a few of his achievements. Mr. Argenziano is certainly a success. He has helped the school and the students enormously. His talk is ' ' down to earth ' He doesn ' t put anyone down, neither does he use excess flattery. He ' s honest, fair, and friendly. We admire and respect him. So, we dedi- cate to Mr. Argenziano the 1973 Torch of Silver Lake High. i t ' • ' ' W W ' ' W W ' ' ' ' W ' W WW ' W W W W l I 1 } J } J 1 } { { J { { { i i O Yet We Trust Oh yet we trust that somehow good; Will be the final goal of ill, To pangs of nature, sins of will. Defects of doubt, and taints of blood; That nothing walks with aimless feet; That not one life shall be destroyed. Or cast as rubbish to the void. When God hath made the pile complete; That not a worm is cloven in vain; That not a moth with vain desire Is shrivelled in a fruitless fire, Or but subserves another ' s gain. Behold, we know not anything; I can but trust that good shall fall At last-far off-at last, to all, And every winter change to spring. So runs my dream: but what am I? Your yearbook staff has designed this book to help you remember the excellent opportunities afforded you, the student. Silver Lake is your school. It was what you wanted it to be. The course of- ferings and the extra-curricular programs are developed and planned to meet your individual needs. We hope that you turn the pages of The Silver Lake Torch so that you can begin to unfold the mysteries and uncertainties that beset you, the student, and perhaps more importantly, so that you can have lasting memories of your school and become involved in society with the varied and challenging opportunities presented you at Silver Lake. 1 leave you the words of Samuel Johnson: To improve the golden moment of opportunity, and catch the good that is within our reach, is the great art of life.
