Since life may summon us at every age Be ready, heart, for parting, new endeavor, Be ready bravely and without remorse To find new light that old ties cannot give. In all beginnings dwells a magic force For guarding us and helping us to live. Serenely let us move to distant places And let no sentiments of home detain us. The Cosmic Spirit seeks not to restrain us But lifts us stage by stage to wider spaces. If we accept a home of our own making, Familiar habit makes for indolence. We must prepare for parting and leave-taking Or else remain the slaves of permanence. Even the hour of our death may send Us speeding on to fresh and newer spaces, And life may summon us to newer races. So be it, heart: Bid farewell without end. Hermann Hesse ftim In Memoriam Gerhard Fliege James Bezanson Death, tike birth, is .1 transition. To us, it is death; t them, it is birth. Every man is a reflection of the world and times iii which he- lives. Only by sharing these reflections can we gain a lair and true view of our perceived world. Mr. Fliege ' s and Jimmy ' s reflections will he missed. .Dedication William P. ' ' Histor) can be boring when teachers simply lecture, not relating past to pres- ent. Mr. Bystrom doesn ' t teach that way — he makes history relevant to the events of today. In two years. Bill Bvstrom has built him- self quite a reputation. His method of teaching is responsible for his success, and two words can describe this method — enthusiasm and involvement. He is gen- uinely enthused about his subjects, and nis enthusiasm is contagious. His students :an always look forward to an interesting, iilive class. Through plays, debates, expe- riments, and discussions, Mr. Bystrom iftecomes involved in his classes but he ' loesn ' t merelv moderate or direct — he akes part. Bv putting himself on the stu- lent ' s level, he establishes an excellent apport with his students; thus they want o learn from him. With half damp eyes I stared to the room where my friends and I had spent many an afternoon. Where we together weathered many a storm, laughin ' and jokin ' till the early hours of the morn. By the old wooden stove where our hats was hung our words were told, our songs was sung, we longed for nothing and were satisfied singin ' and talkin ' about the world outside. With hungry hearts through the heat and cold we never much thought we could net verv old, we thought we could sit forever in fun but our chances really was a million to one. As easy it was to tell black from white It was all that easy to tell wrong from right and the choices, they was few, so the thought never hit that the one road we travelled would ever shatter or split. — Bob Dvlan — Senior Class Play Take Her, She ' s Mine A comedy in two acts by Phoebe and Henry Ephron l i ; . , ; . , .
