As our class has passed through Silver Lake, each of us has strived to be a special candle. We didn ' t want to be just our parents ' children or our teachers ' students; we wanted to be ourselves. In our efforts, we have sometimes confused such words as individuality and nonconformity with cool or hip. Then we became mirrors. As we now step into the future, we must remember to be candles which spread their own light. We, the editors, want The Torch to be the mirror that reflects all the shining, hopeful, ever-spreading light of life at Silver Lake. We hope the yearbook will be the image of our high school experiences and endeavors and a means of remerfibering them for many years to come. Jeffrey once had the audacity to say that if the Yearbook Staff were being graded on effort, he would be given five stars while the rest of us would receive only one. Truthfully, he does deserve credit. But if Jeff is to be the Five Star General, then we must call Miss Margeson the Commander-in-Chief, for she has been the invaluable organizer and advisor to this yearbook. Edmund has been the Captain of his very own ship, the sports section. Single-handedly he has composed one fifth of the book. Celia has been the bomber pilot who has fought unceasingly in the battles of the deadlines. We give her a Bronze Star for service above and beyond the call of duty. Under the direction of Mr. Fallon, Rollene and Frank have worked on the homefront, raising the money to finance The Torch. Our typists, the Marines, have always been ready to serve when needed. After a six month struggle to put out a superior yearbook, we editors have the privilege of signing the peace treaty and taking credit for the great job our team has done. And so, now, we say, Thanks, to those noble warriors who have met the challenge of The Torch, 1968.
