Silver Lake has teachers who stress not only academic subjects, but also those of a non-academic nature. These subjects combine to produce a student well- schooled in all the areas justifiably deemed important by society. Mr. Curran teaches the special classes. Mrs. Peterson, the school nurse, does her best to re- lieve our various aches and pains. Culturally, our Art teachers, Mrs. Johnston and Mr. Semple; and our Music teachers, Mr. Wallace and Mr. Lincoln; help to stimulate our interest and to develop our abilities in their respective fields. Our Physical Education instructors, Mr. Girouard, Mr. Montosi, Mr. Pierce, Miss Wo- lejko, and Mrs. Stratton coach us in the rules of various sports and help us to de- velop team spirit and co-operation. s I .. • GUIDANCE The purpose of the Guidance Department is to aid the student in personal relationships and problems, as well as in the areas of vocation and education. This year, in the latter two fields, Freshmen and Sophomores were given a series of tests to help them understand their capabilities and to check their specific areas of interest. Juniors and Seniors were provided with information that enabled them to decide on their future occupational or further educational plans.

Language is the bridge to span the gulf of generations, and a great responsibility reposes in any classroom where words are spoken, ideas expressed, or symbols clarified. Man needs desperately to reach young people and to imbue them with a love for language ENGLISH and a determination to find their individual- ity within the words they write or speak.
