SENIOR CLASS ADVISOR Mr. Arthur Hand SENIOR CLASS ADVISOR Mrs. Harriet Nathanson Now we are Seniors and on the very threshold of life. As we look ahead we look ahead we often fail to look ' back and recall the events that are now memories. Behind us are six long years, years of hard work mixed with many good times. Who would ever think that we are the same group that entered Silver Lake in 1958. Feeling very small and con- fused, we groped our way around until we finally got the room numbers straight. This year many lasting friendships were formed, both in class and at the frequent dances put on by the Junior High. We entered the eighth grade with a little more self- confidence and the pleasant feeling of having successfully come through our first year at Silver Lake. We were beginning to feel more a part of the school and a little excited about the coming year, when we would be fresh- men. As freshmen we were in. for a few surprises. One was the feeling of again being at the bottom of the ladder. This disappeared as we became active in clubs and sports and found that the life of a freshmen is not as hard as it it seemed. Another surprise was the mad rush we were thrown into between classes, quite different from the single- file of the Junior High. After the first rush of panic we began to enjoy it. Our money-making project was the sale of Silver Lake sweatshirts, and it was quite successful. We also had our own squad of cheerleaders to cheer on the freshmen teams. This year our officers were president, Kenneth Davis, vice president, Richard Arruda, secretary, Mary Reed, treasurer, William Gould, and historian, Catherine Harkins. We began our sophomore year with the sale of pins. On November 4th, we put on a dance to try to build up our treasury for the coming year and the prom. This year we tackled such subjects as biology , where we disected worms and peered into the microscope; geometry, where we tried to sort out and remember the numerous axidms and postulates; and Modern European History, where many students kept finding themselves in Siberia. In the spring CLASS HISTORY a long awaited moment arrived when we ordered our class rings. This year our officers were, president, Jerald Hogan, vice-president, Richard Arruda, secretary, Mary Reed, treasurer, Bonnie Wheeler, and Historian, Catherine Harkens. Then we became Juniors and a step closer to graduation. This year the big event was the Junior Prom, and prepara- tions for it began early in the year. As we painted yards of red stripes and scavenged for flowers, we began to wonder if we would ever finish in time. After long hours we did finish and An Evening in Paris was tres maifique. The highlight of the evening was the Grand March and the announcement of the queen, Debbie Bates, and her court, Ingrid Krueger, Julie McClelland, Virginia Glass, Cheryl Joubert, Linda Nickerson and Dale Souza. Follow- ing the prom we drove through the pouring rain for a delicious midnight dinner at Eugene ' s. The rain didn ' t dampen our spirits, however, and a good time was enjoyed by all. Our Junior class officers were president John Mc- Cann, vice-president Georgianne Doody, secretary, Mary Reed, treasurer, Bonnie Wheeler, and Historian, Catherine Harkens. Finally we were Seniors and graduation seemed only a step away. The year began with the election of class officers. They were president, John McCann, vice-president, Robert Stewart, secretary, Mary Reed, treasurer, Bonnie Wheeler, and historian, Catherine Harkens. The Senior Class Play, Ladies of the Jury, was a great success, though the spirit was somewhat saddened by the tragic death of the presi- dent, John F. Kennedy. In December there were college boards, applications, and the beginning of long periods of anxious waiting. With midyear exams we realized that the year was half over, and we would soon be leaving. Now we have reached the end of our years at Silver Lake. For many there is sadness, though it is mixed with expecta- tion of new experiences and new opportunities to come. Ahead is a new life; a door is soon opening for us, the door to the future.
