Mrs. Nathanson GLASS HISTORY Now, as Seniors, we look back over six eventful years at Silver Lake and let our thoughts dwell on many memorable experiences. Our first thought is of the bewildered group that gathered in the Little Theatre in September of 1958. Who would then have dreamed that we would ever see graduation day? Our first dance The Seventh Grade Satellite Swing was a success and tended to strengthen our friendships. We continued the tradition of presenting a class dance in the eighth grade with The Shillelagh Shag. This time we had a contest for choosing the name of the dance for which the winner received two tickets. We participated in the science-countdown during this year, and a member of our class represented us in the State-wide contest. We climaxed the year by presenting the musical production The Forest Prince. In junior high we formed many lasting friendships, but it was during our first year in high school that we started to take an active part in school activities. It was this year that we established the custom of having a squad of freshman cheerleaders to cheer for the freshman boys at games. Our girls may not have been as smooth as the varsity, but they were effective and very enthusiastic. Our annual dance The Klompendanse or the Dance of the Wooden Shoes, was highlighted by the music of Kenny Pimental and His Rhythm Aces. With the aid of our advisors, Mrs. Breen and Mr. Minnock, and our class officers, President; Gary Lunt, Vice-President; JoAnn Reardon, Secretary; Mary Nicholson, Treasurer- Daniel Burke and Historian,- Marianne Cote, our class had quite a successful year. 1 959 brought us a little closer to our dream of being seniors, for we became sophomores. We elected as President; Daniel Burke, Vice President; JoAnn Reardon, Secretary; Mary Nicholson, Treasurer,- JoAnn Randall, and Historian,- Elizabeth True. Our class dance was not quite as elaborate as in past years! We had a record hop after one of the basketball games, and because of restrictions as to attire, the attendance was poor. This year proved to be a year of awards for our class. One of our girls became the F.F.A. Sweetheart, and one of our boys won the annual F.F.A. speaking contest. We were well represented in the dramatic club play which took first place at Sharon in the district Drama Festival. A large number of our members were inducted into the Honor Society, and many of the boys played varsity sports. The class officers for our junior year were President; Greg Lennox, Vice President; Daniel Burke, Secre- tary; Mary Nicholson, Treasurer; JoAnn Randall, and Historian; Ellen Fitzgerald. Along with the execu- tive board and the advisors, Mr. Coakley and Mrs. Bjornholm, they carrie d on the business of our class. Many of the juniors took the two hour P.S.A.T. exam complete with fire drill in the middle! In January we held a food sale to raise money to defray the cost of the decorations for the Junior Prom. The committees began their work early, and we spent many an evening painting trees, dying cheese cloth blue, making stars, and creating a castle. When all of these things were finally assembled in the gym and covered with angel hair, a Wonderland by Night emerged. We danced to the music of the Bridgewater State Orchestra. The highlights of the evening were the Grand March, (which represented many long hours of practice) and the selection of the Queen and her Court. We presented gifts to our advisors,- to Mrs. Bjornholm some flowers, to Mr. Coakley, an empty box which we filled later! Question: Who lost the cufflinks? Dinner at the Bourne Mill concluded the evening. Finally in September of 1 962, we became seniors. After hearing speeches from each candidate cam- paigning for a class office, we chose as President; Vincent Cogliano, Vice-President,- Angelo DiMario, Secretary; Mary Nicholson, Treasurer; JoAnn Randall, and Historian; Marilyn Shaw. Our advisors, Mrs. Nathanson and Mr. Hand helped us plan the many activities for the year. Our Senior Class Play, My Three Angels was very successful, and credit should be given to all people who worked on it for their fine production. In planning Senior Week activities, it was decided to omit a picnic because the class was too large, and to hold our catered banquet in the gym. Graduation brings an end to our high school years, but it does not dim our pleasant memories. Al- though friends and acquaintances may part, we know that the ties of good fellowship formed here at school will continue in the years to come. Marilyn E. Shaw Historian
