Bob Wade in his freshman year was substitute on the 3 M2 second team. He did not go out in his sophomore and Egg? Junior years on account of his eyes. The senior year, get 5 Bob was a substitute on the first team and got to see a fi f great deal of action. Bob as a senior is 5' ll tall L., and weighs 162 pounds. fa? .at Q .Syl.Allen, a very faithful player started playixg f Z ball in his freshman year. He saw a lot of action in if the past four years. He played on the second team for QQ Z two years and is substituting for the first team. As a ggw' W, senior he is 6' tall and weighs l4O pounds. age Z7 Coach Dick Beck is a graduate of Syracuse High 3 School. He attended Manchester College for three years ty Z then went to the Army Air Force. He returned to Manchester College and finished his work there. He came f to Silver Lake for his first year of teaching. I The four juniors on the first eleven were Dick 'Z ,f Jontz, Bob Rider, Otto Wright and Dale Roberts. They were substitutes this year, but we feel they have ff jf possibilities for next year. The scoring and weight are as follows: . Q Dick Jontz 6' l65 pounds 151 points 52, Z Bob Rider 5' ll l45 pounds 25 points Q Otto Wright 5' 10 150 pounds l'7 points Dale Roberts 5' '7 155 pounds Q The seniors would like to wish all the luck in the world to the Ramblers next year. gzyffa are , ...Y fz, ZW? The student managers for the Ramblers this year ZZ were Maynard Nade, senior, and Donald Deaton, a junior. ' X Maynard started his career as a student manager in his freshman year. He did not go out in his sophomore year ' VZ . Z but got back in form in his junior and senior years. Q This is the first year for Donald as student manager, 5209452 but he did very well. He was Maynard's assistant and did. most of the work. Q season, we came out on top with a Rambler line-up of gh' Carl Sands at center, Lewis Fruit and Jay Parker as 2 iff' Q guardsg and Tom Summe and Glenn Rager as forwards. Substitutes were Dick Jontz, Sylvester Allen, Bob Rider and otco Wright. f el Coach Dick Beck in his first year of coaching 09 Z Q27 proved his ability as a coach in helping us win l6 of 5 jg Z our 18 scheduled games. E We In Q In the county tourney we drew Warsaw. After Eg ig winning from Warsaw by two points we played Ivlentone in .Q Z 'af the semi-finals and defeated them by one point. We gan, then advanced to the finals where we met Milford and were defeated by two points in a very thrilling over- time game in the finals. We traveled to Pierceton on February 6, and were ff defeated 5O to 42. This was our first defeat of our 4 A regular schedule of games. On February 14, the Team played North Manchester at the college gym. The 1, Ramblers were defeated in another overtime game. Ka The sectional tourney found Silver Lake anxious to win its first tourney and the right to go to Fort Wayne. , We met Burket, Mentone, Pierceton and Warsaw in the ?f tourney. It was a happy night for Coach Dick Beck 4 because this is his first year of coaching, and we won. D 74 ff? , in i , MZ Z The Ramblers were crippled at Fort Wayne without , g the services of Center Sands who was ill with the mumps, A and Guard Jay Parker who was ill with the flu. Dick Jontz and Syl Allen had to fill, in the Rambler line-up tffax 2? Z We met Kendallville in the second game of the afternoon, came out victorious 55 to 54 in a thrilling game.
