A late student enters the school on a cold winter morning. 1967 Was the gear of education and knowledge essential to broadening our minds and way of living. The year of 1967 molded the character of all Silver Creek High School students, it made all students one year older and one year wiser. It also exemplified success in our purposes, gaining wisdom to understand and grace to fulfill our challenges. Silver Creek learned as it taught, remained young as it grew older by stimulating in its students andfinstructors the desire for knowledge that came with good education. From their associations with one another the teachers and students of Silver Creek realized that in youth existed the eagerness and curiosity which madeithe future leader, and in age existed the experience and wisdom needed to temper youth. This then, is Silver Creek High School-an institu- tion of people teaching and learning and growing to- gether to make the year 1967 a , Qiriving for higher . . . This must be a new kind of desk. For us, the course of education is set; for us, the waves of progress roll; and for us, the sails of learning are spread. Each year of our iourney, we raise the anchor to sail on to the next landing in the work of learning. Soon we will assume full control of the wheel; and, in the ship we have built, we will sail on to the ocean of our future. We, passengers and crew, are proud of Sjlver Creek. May Silver Creek be proud of us. Academic Skills introduced in Math . . . Constructing polygons of all shapes, applying alge- braic equations, and using supplemental equipment to understand certain mathematical aspects enlighten the curious-minded mathematicians at S.C. The four year course of math offered at Silver Creek is excellent preparation for college bound stu- dents. For those not so mathematically inclined, general math is the basic foundation that prepares one for the business field. People are becoming more and more fascinated by the world of science. With new textbooks and modern Miss Maxine Johnson Mr. David Prather equipment the students at S. C. can learn the technique used by outstanding scientists in the dis- covery of miracle drugs and the development of complex machinery. Offered at S. C. are four years of science. Two ' L. years of biology makes one more appreciative of the marvels of everyday living. Chemistry opens up a world of color and mystery. The scientific principles, used in daily life and in space age techniques are learned in physics. Whether one desires to become a scientist or to work in an unrelated field, science enables one to: better understand the world around him and to have more enioyment out of living. ! I 14 .J 5 L. Silver Creek business department launches many students on successful careers. It offers a wide selection in business education, beginning with General Business in the sophomore year. This is an introductory course into the field of business. Business typing goes hand in hand with short- hand, office practice, and bookkeeping. Office practice gives aid to students planning steno- graphic or secretarial positions. It is also helpful for students who plan to enter college. Another course within the business curriculum is shorthand, offered to iuniors and seniors. It teaches the skill of reading, writing, and transcrib- ing. The Homemaking Department of- fers a four year program including six major areas: clothing, foods, family relations, housing, child care, home nursing and first aid. These special phases are: physical development and fitness, motor skills, emotional matur- ity and social adjustment. Physical education is taught by Mr. Denton and Mrs. Booker. Promoting and maintaining the health of students and providing a safe, heatthful school environment are the chief goals of the health and safety department. Freshmen and sophomores receive instructions in first aid procedures for all types of accidents; safety measures for the home, school, and office; and in the general makeup of their body and how it works; all necessary ingredi- ents for making an effective, happy individual. Mrs. Sue Croyle Mr. Booker, iust what do you study in government? This couldn't be the economics class. Social studies is a study of people: their past, present, and future. By looking to the past we can determine the path to follow for the future. As the citizens of tomorrow, we need to acquire an understanding and appreciation of the history of our country, so that we can be the qualified citizens of the future, which our country needs. Not only does gazing diligently into the past establish a guide for the future and present, but, also this permits one to .learn why a nation takes certain measures in its. social, economical, and political concerns. Vitally important today for Americans is knowing why nations have risen and fallen; thus one can profit from the mistakes of those previoustpowers. Psychology class studies the effect of a paddling on a student. Applging Knowledge . . . Mr. Tom Marsh One of the art trips was to the Zimmerman Art Glass Company. Few people realize how much we depend upon art. We would know very little of early and pre- historic times were it not for the arti-facts and pictures that men of these periods have left. Down through the ages men have left their dreams, hopes, and fears recorded in paint and stone. Today, art determines the styles of clothes, automobiles, homes, and the designs of all other important obiects around us. Art is a living record of man. In the art program at S.C.H.S., we have two main goals: Hi learning to be aware of the world around us, and at through the experience of handling vari- ous art materials, we endeavor to express our own feeling about ourselves and the world in which we Would you believe that this is Sue Dyer in art class with a mud-pack on her face? To be a safe driver is the aim of most teens, to this end the students of S.C.H.S. strive in Drivers' Educa- tion. The course lasts one semester and at the end of it they are better drivers by far. Drivers' Education prepares the student to be careful and road- wise and is very important as Ameri- ca is ever-increasing in road popula- tion. Mr. Orren L. It is here we have be- come men and women, had hopes shattered, felt pain, seen the future in a newer more secure light and experienced all the happiness and frustration that could possibly be packed into four years. Our memories will become less vivid, the people we knew will be spoken of as, That girl in English 203, or the boy who led the team in scoring back in '66. We depart then, leaving behind a school that has been fun and fear, happiness and sadness-a school which holds an unforget- table memory. Each year will form a ripple in our pool of remembrance, but we shall never for- get... President . . . . . .......... Kenny Humston Vice President . . ............
