u m O M. H Ours is a world complex in its own. It is the root of a memory, a field of endeavor, a time of mixed emotions. In our world is the kind of material from which great things are made. It has not only an educational influence, but a religious and moral influence as well. In our world we be- come intricately involved in activities which serve as a way of broadening our minds while providing the opportunity to escape the constant struggle of scholastic achievement. Ours is a world continually challenging us. We must, if we are to succeed in our purpose, gain wisdom to understand and grace to fulfill our challenges. Your world outside is much like ours, and yet ours is days of learning; yours is days of teaching. We, as students, are in a pliant period in which character is being molded for your world. We, who entered this world twelve years ago, will soon be recalling fond memories. But our minds will be turned to new horizons ahead. We are, be- cause we must be, preparing during our twelve years for your world. After these short hours, days, years, and after all the classes, books, ball games, proms, tears, and laughter, this will no longer be our world. Just what is this world? Our World Is This . . . These girls were chosen by their class and escorted by another member of their class. $f I O I A sophomore, Queen Chrish, makes a radiant and lovely choice for the title. I Gaiety and color prevailed at this yearis annual Band Valentine Dance on February 15. ' Against a beautiful background of cupids and giant red hearts, Linda Byers and Jim Costin were crowned 1961-65 queen and king. Chosen by members of the band, Linda and Jim were presented gifts and reigned throughout the dance sponsored by the band member parents. Reign- ing as prince and princess were Robert Doughty and Hedy Beigay. Music for the occasion was provided by Bill Pang- burn and his orchestra. gezwngmn. Band king and queen this year IS Linda Byers and Jimmy Cos- tin. Due to the many activities during the winter months, our annual Snowball Dance was post- poned until March and renamed The Spring Dance. As every year, Mr. and Miss SCHS were crowned and presented gifts. This year Miss SCHS was presented a dozen red roses and her crown as a memory of the royal mo- ment. Mr. SCHS also got to keep his crown as a memento. Reigning as Mr. and Miss SCHS, Fred Larson and Donna Weaver display the qualities of royalty, as Janice Hager and Robert Hauselman, former Mr. and Miss SCHS, crown them. Pictured here are a few couples a who were present to enjoy the - festive spring atmosphere. Being observed by the judges are these candidates; Pam Popp and Pat Engleking, Seniors; Linda Hagest and Donna Weaver, Juniors; Irene Conroy and Kathy Miller, Sophomores; Kathy Steele and Cindy McKinley, Freshmen; Harry Mannix, Senior; Billy Hoffman, Junior; Fred Larson and Greg Hager, Freshmen; Hollis Booker and David Allen, Sophomores; Neill Neirman, J unior; and Dale McKinley, Senior. QUEEN AND COURT: Dale Mckinley, Linda Crum, Ernie Gilbert, Terry Baxter, Prom Queen; Danny Renn, Prom King; Cathy Graham, Doug Couch, Jane Graham. 0; EM As is tradition, the candidates for prom queen are girls from the Junior class chosen by the boys of the Senior class. The Junior girls Choose as king: 3 member of the Senior class. The boy and girl receiving the largest num- ber of votes wins the honor of king and queen. The girls and boys who were second, third, and fourth highest are members of the court. The results are unknown until the crowning of king and queen at the Prom. Everyone an- ticipates this tension filled moment when the roses are placed in her arms and crowns are placed upon their heads. The court then joins them in a special dance in honor of the reigning couple. Reigning at the nineteen hundred sixly-five Prom are Miss Torry Baxter, Junior; and Semor, Danny Renn. Z: 1 74a mg a. Held at the beautiful Stauf- fers Inn in Louisville, the prom this year was an overwhelming success. Shaded by a blossom laden magnolia tree, the guests en- joyed music provided by the iiStoneciphersi and smacked 0n the foods that our S.C. cooks had prepared and served to those attending. The prom was followed with . a breakfast at the school cafe- i teria. This was sponsored by the parents of members of the Junior class. The fun provided kept everyone entertained while they consumed the bountiful supply of eggs, bacon, toast, pancakes, etc. Then to the sock hop in the gym or off to finish the mom- ing.r with bowling. The Juniors worked diligent- ly for weeks to make this prom 0:05 pm - l i f JW Mrs. Nunn, Mrs. Burns, Mrs. Miller, and Mrs. Walker prepared and served the many a valuable moment for all the Seniors to add to their memo- ries. varieties of food that the prom guests snacked on during the festive evening. A few of the couples who were on hand to enjoy the prom are these seated around this beautifully decorated table. Centered around an arrangement of yellow mums, there were on each table rolls of streamers in varied colors, our programs, name cards, and napkins identifying the prom. Although Silver Creek had only three majorettes this year, each are to be complimented for their per- formances given at our home bas- ketball games. Under their own direction, these girls presented various routines which proved they had put much practice and preparation into their performances. Included many times to their re- sponsibility of carrying the flag at the hallgames, was a haIf-time pro- gram. Varieties of skills were dis- played as they projected moods of comedy, serious, and light enter- tainment, and with an appropriate costume for every event. The courses offered are general math, Algebra I and II, geometry, trig, and analytics, and college algebra. Solving a complicated equation, calculating a square root, or simply adding a list of numbers these students are introduced to phases of math that will help them become proficient in mathe- matical skills. This year was a first for Mrs. Weber and Mr. Mollohan at Silver Creek High. They joined Mrs. Irby in her second year of teaching here. These teachers provided very adequate knowledge for students pursuing the com- mercial course and those just enrolled in a commercial subject. Many students plan to enter a business emu. .vn college after graduation and some may find jobs without furthering their edu- . cation. Whichever the case may be, these students are well prepared to fulfill the i. qualifications and meet the standards of either schools or employees. 301va r . rs . guru At work in Mr. Mollohan's General Business class is pupil, Donnie Ruddell. The home economics classes are very active during the year, with clothes to be made and foods to be prepared. Not to mention the countless other things these girls do. The cooking class the first semester gave a presentation of a model wedding, which gave the girls much experience in the planning in balancing the budget and wedding manner. The sewing class presented a modeling show at the Close of the year. This pro- vided an opportunity to display the prom dresses, suits, and the many other arti- cles the girls made during the year. Twenty per cent of the American people are engaged directly in farming or a job that is closely related to it. At S.C. the teaching of agriculture starts farmers on their road. With the four-year program offered at Silver Creek, students of agriculture are learning how to grow food, preserve it, or to make machinery necessary to farmers. Putting into practice their training of gas welding are Carl Dreyer and Lonnie Groves. Identifying the parts of the cow to Robert Churchman and Martin Broady is Mr. Arnett. This year a new music course has been offered. This music theory class has added to the varied electives in addition to art classes to develop the stu- dents skills and appreciation of the fine arts. Latin students relive the building of Roman and Greek myths. Here they learn the fundamentals of basic language. S.Cfs Spanish students absorb the cultures of the Spanish speaking world and learn how the Spanish work and play. By studying the reactions of the human mind, psychology helps students to understand their own responses and to observe others, responses to life. Drivers Education prepares the student to be careful and road-wise and is very important as America has ever- increasing road population. Economics pro- vides much information about the back. stage affairs of America. Thoughtfully com- bined, these electives supply vital knowl- edge to orientate the pupil to the vast and complicated world he is preparing for. Catered food was well worth waiting for as the class devoured chicken, ham, roast, ravioli, cakeejust about everything edible! ! At this annual event awards are presented to Seniors who have made outstanding achievements in various fields. This year a first took place in the awards. Neil Walker received the Balfour Award and will have the first boy's name to be engraved on this plaque that hangs in the office. The theme prevailing at the Senior Honors Day pro- gram this year was iiOur Trip to Washington or i That Was The Week That Wasnit? The gym was decorated with a patriotic flair and the skits were prepared with a jest of politics. How in the world are you and Mr. Walk trying to get the fire started, Mr. Be- dell? The Senior girlis breakfast sponsored by Phi Beta Psi. One hundred thirteen strong, they marched down the aisle May 25, 1965, to face the people who had once been behind them, to listen to their class- mates speak, to flash their minds back on their twelve previous years, to con- template on their approaching years, and most important of all to receive their diplomas. This moment is the conclusion of a world entirely different from the one they are now entering, the one they had been preparing for, the one they perhaps fear a little. But now they are no longer a part of this world. This is our world. q. NEW ALBANY BEAUTY COLLEGE 322 Vincennes New Albany.
