The start of a new decade. The start of a new era, with new fads, new ideas, new goals. As we look back on the last four years of our lives, we can claim something from them that can help us in this new decadeg something that no one can ever take away from us . . . memories. This graduating class of 1970, as a whole, cannot claim the same memories. We are the union of two different schools, with different backgrounds and different achievements to boast of. Through our freshman, sophomore, and junior years, we have won spirit trophies, Marathon Days, Cardinal Holidays, Can Drives, and competition in the sale of ASB cards. We have had good and bad days, trials and tribulations, winning and losing. Then we became seniors. The upperclassmen. Leaders of the school. We made new friends of those from Overfelt and Mt. Pleasant. We were divided, yet we strove with much determination for our final goal of unity. We went through the building of the senior float, the paper drive, the Senior Ball, the Senior Picnic, and the ultimate achievement, Commence- ment. It seems such a short time ago that we first set foot on a high school campus as freshmen. The thought running through each mind was, Four years. l'l1 never make it. It's too long a time to have to wait. A few didn't make it. The majority did. We are here. We have made it. ...,-f - 1 , ,f - .. . ff AWN MW Q 4 ,,....' Our main objective was to develop a solid, hard hitting i defensive team. We accomplished this task-only two teams scored more than six points against us. Very few teams we played could sustain a drive against our defense. Our weakest point was in pass defense, and if this area was stronger we would have won more than three of our ten games. j Our offense was sporadic the first part of the season , but in the last five games we gained over 100 yards per game. This was done through the efforts of our linemen and running backs. The area that hurt us the most was not having a scoring punch. We had three J. V. All League players that should be key personnel in next year's club. These players are Ike Hernandez, Ken Smith, and Ken Matsumoto. Other players that should help the Varsity squad are: Mike Thum, Rod Peagler, Duane Lewis, Dennis Thum, Bert Williams, Chuck Trujillo, Jim Uriate, Randy Forsland, and Curt Fujino. 4 Jw 1- Irving Everett, Jeff Lantz, Gardon Fugino, Ron Sanchez, Bruce Demaree, Steve Dawe, Doug Masuta Row 2- Keith Haga, esley Matsumoto, David Lemos, Ruben Arenda, Frank Maldonado, Chester Lessor, Earl Woods Row 3- Rich Saygayno, Herby Neves, ly Salaz, Pat Dugan, John Vaishville, Jeff Johnson, Jim Mayfield Row 4- Mgr. Hamilton league Frosh Championship. After receiving an early season loss at the hands of Ayer, in what would be called a close and controversial game 416 - 145, Reggie led the Frosh team to five consecutive wins, for a season- ending 6 - 1 record. Much of the credit must be given to Silver Creek's outstanding monster defense, which was led by all-league selections, Rich Saygano, Herb Neves, Tom Cabral, Ron Sanchez, Jeff Johnson, Rich Telly and Reggie Eaton. The offense was led by the receiving of Paul Hoff and Wes Matsonoto and the running of Jim Patty, Jim Mayfield, Tom Cabral, and Herb Neves, but all this could not have come about without the unsung heroes of the offensive line: Dave Nemons, Gordy Lugino, Keith Haga, Steve Johnson, Chet Lesser and Ray Salaz. The Raiders had many problems to contend with, the greatest being that they never had worked together as teams before. There was no school pool and there were no water polo cages with which to practice. Working hard and eagerly to achieve their goals, the teams greatly improved, and are truly to be commended on their 1969 accomplish- ments. The highlight of the season was when the Novice Water Polo Team fcomposed of frosh-soph non-lettermenj won the James Lick Novice Water Polo Tournament. This was SC's first victory in league championship. The team was the largest in the East Side with over 40 runners, and qualified for the sectional championships at Coyote Park. Vaasrtg Basketball The Silver Creek varsity basketball team finished the season 6 and 16 overall in league play. Although the record is not outstanding, the Raider hoopsters represented the school commendably during the 1969-'70 season. The pre-season games were all played against teams that finished in the top three in their respective leagues. The Raiders participated in the Bishop O'Dowd Christmas Tournament, which is considered one of the best in the area. The team was 0-2 in the tournament, but played well for a first- year school, the two losses coming at the hands of Lincoln High of S.F. and Salesian High of Richmond. With the opening of league play, the Raiders were ready for action and two victories showed it. Experience is a vital part of a successful season, and the team was lacking in this com- modity. When pressure is on, you know how to handle it only if you have met it before- unfortunately, the Raiders had not. The high point of the season was a 77- 71 victory over the James Lick Comets. The Raiders were beaten by the league-leading Comets 63-44 in the first meeting. The second meeting of the two teams saw a fine team effort by Silver Creek that led to victory. 70 .94 9 af-8 T 4 ottom Row: L-R John Ersparsa, John Morris, Eric Josephson, Steve Briguel, Warren Jackson, Ben Guerrero, Walt 'laucesia 2nd Row: L-R. Inexperience this year is a major problem, but regardless our team is on its way to a very successful season. In Non - League games our 3-1 record was very impressive and in league play we expect the team to surprise our opponents. We have ballplayers from Overfelt, Mt. According to Webster, a choir is a group of people who sing together at the IS. same time. According to those who heard our Silver Creek High School Choir, it was J , said that these youngsters went beyond the bonds of just singing together. They com- municate and truly experience the esthetic enjoyment of vocal participation through song. I'm very proud to be their director. Bob Russell r 59414 up MW! SLM 'fi ik ii ,'i L. This yearbook holds numerous memories for me, the most rewarding of which are the contacts I have had with many students and the great spirit the student body has shown in getting a new school off the ground. In many ways the school has moved in the direction of the motto you chose, We Lead-Others Follow. It is 1ny sincere hope that the student body continues to build a school with that motto in mind and one that reflects the theme of this yearbook. For those of you who will be leaving us this year-thanks for the ex- perience and good luck. For those who are remaining- let's continue the work st ar ted and develop Silver Creek into the finest high school in America. Guy C. The student can express their feelings to the liaison members, who in turn can communicate the students' point of view to the staff. In addition, the liaison groups, through their association with the community at large, are able to broaden understandings between school and com- munity. Silver Creek is truly fortunate to have such an outstanding group of Liaison people to work with us. QQQCD CFS YWQQHSQ 1 I , e Mfrs. Gougales Atiudzww Mas. Powdlu S Qwuzfaleg Mas.
