-vt DEDICATION It is with love and admiiation that we, the Satsuma Staff of 1956, dedicate this volume to - Mr. L B. Griffith. It is but an humble effort to show our appreciation for his six previ- ous years of leadership as our coach, teacher and this year as counsel- or of Silsbee High School. We express our thanks to him for helping to improve and make ours a better and more outstanding school. He has woven into our high school tapestry a pattern of wisdom and fair play not found in text books alone, but also in the strength of unity, cooperation and purpose.

BOARD OF EDUCATION X Ai- - ■ ut president ' p. i Nothing is more uniquely American than local control of public education through boards of education composed of lay citizens. School board members represent the people who own and support schools. They fc«m a grass root organization which is closer to the people than any other form of government. They voice the wishes and aspirations of the parents and the children. They spend the local tax-payers ' money and are responsible to their neighbcxs for the action. They are trustees of a great public responsibility; yet they assume this task without any thought of remuneration other than the personal satis- faction of rendering a valuable and useful service to the youth of the community. The staff and student body would like to take this opportunity of publicly expressing their appreciation to our Board of Education and simply say Thanks.
