Silsbee put up a good fight but the experienced Indians ou - classed them. St. Anthony's Lopez spurred his teammates on to a 32-0 victory' over the Tigers. The rivalry was strong as the Tigers tied Nederland 6-6. Silsbee playedexcellent ballall the wayg Keown scored from the 15 yd. line. The be st game came as the Tigers closed the season with French High School. The game was de dicate d to those Senior boys who w ould not return to play in 1948. The Tigers chalked up l7first downs to 7for French, but despite the Tigers' excellent ball playing, the final score was 14-12. in favor of French. A pass from Wallace to Keown b r ought the first score, and later in the fourth quarter Silsbee scored again. Toups made a 61 yd. run for French and they scored again on a hideout p lay. The ballgame c a me to a'thrilling climax as Keown attempted a field goal on the last play of the game. The Tigers' fighting s p ir it was unsurpassed and it was a game to go down in history for Silsbee High. A Wa' 5 ,AH .,,jL,i.., ,-....1... -..- ay Af' fl' ,V my 5. A boy's ability, his sportsmanship, his c h a r a ct e r, and teamwork are the principal factors that decide the trophy winners. Raymond Keown wa s selected as the most valuab le back. Red was principally an end but was called on to play i.n the baclcfield during every game. He did practically all of the kick- ing, threw several touchdown passes, and made long runs both around end and through the middle of the line. He reached his peak in the last game of the season which was a g a in st French High School of Be aum ont and played excellent of- fensive and defensive ball. Lindsey Wallace was selectedasthe outstand- ing li.neman of the year. Left tackle was his po- sition, a.nd throughout the year his steady, hard playing, his teamwork, and the results which he got were outstanding. His sportsmanship and co- operation during workouts were also commend- able. In eve ry game he was up against bigger and more experienced opponents but fulfilled his position i.n every manner. Coach George Green didan excellent job with the Tigers this year both by coaching and by keep- ing them i.n high s p ir it s. jeff Addison was the assistant coach, but shortly after the season's end he began working with the Civil Service i.n Ab ilene. Howard Pearson came to Silsbee to c o a ch the jr. High School boys and assist with the Senior High players. me 'I if - . . ' . - ' 2 ,gf - - 1 ' K .. .W , , A f . -f ..
