These times make up the pre- sent, the in-between state of here-and-now that is anticipat- ed before and remembered long after. But what are YOU made of? The answer lies in the past and the future, as well as in the present. Snzzi.. 35 -. Shaped by your own personal history, beckoned by the questions of future days, you exist in the everyday world of the present. Your comings and goings are broader and wider than place to place - because along the way, you're learning and unlearning, giving and taking, meeting and departing. You are the before, the after and the in-between. 4155585-if anus. in 3' i MT. '+ '+ f ff I X I P3 We measure the passing of time in terms of what time brings to us. And so, even the seemingly unimportant events in our lives are never really forgotten - we use them as reference points and stopping places. Happenings are grouped into time frames such as just before the ballgamef' or a few days before my birthday or about the same time I met you. Thoughts and memories revolve around the old and the new. The familiar and the unfamiliar. What we've done and what we've yet to do. au..,w But being in-between is what the times of our lives are all about. We are presented with problems. We enter the in-between state of fig- uring out the solutions, of trial and error, of re- evaluating and revamp- ing. Then, the answers come and the cycle of before, in-between and after is complete. We meet others. We exchange ideas and share backgrounds and joy and pain. We become friends and the cycle moves on to include other faces and names that will become a part of the times of our lives. We take in new knowledge. We mas- ter new skills. And this continual branching out fits neatly into the cycle that makes everyone a part of the past, the present, and the fu- ture. DEDIC TIO Present School Board Members: Benny Holt, President, Louie Allen, Vice Presi- dent, Ken Masters, Clerk, Jimmy Walker, Memberg and William Bryan, Member. Those past members of the new Silo School District not pictured above are Elmer Nelson, Alton Talley, John North- cutt, Homer Eslick, Doyle Allen, Bob Nor- man, Jimmy Green, and Robert Johns. Among the populus of this community are those who have given their undivided attention, talent, extreme loyalty, and devotion to the upgrading of their public school system as they have served on the Cobb-Mead and later Silo Board of Education. It is by their untiring efforts that Silo School has come into its present existence. Those men from Cobb: Homer Eslick, Huell Duncan, Harold Lowe, Doyle Allen and Harold McDonald, and from Mead: James Spears, A. J. Parker, Elmer Nelson, Alton Talley and John Northcutt looked beyond the horizon and foresaw the task which lay ahead in order to keep their local community school. They met that challenge head- on with a spirit of hope and unity. At that time in 1968 there were only 3 school busses operating within both respective districts - presently there are 12 in operation within the Silo School District bounds. There was not a single school building located on the 34:74 acre site of the present modern plant's location. In fact, this tract of land was not even owned by the District at that time. It is to these members, past and present, of the Silo Board of Education that we the student body and faculty of the Silo School most humbly and gratefully dedicate our 1980-81 Silo School Annual. It is a special time to look back over the past years and take a check of the balance scale. In doing this I envision Silo as it was on that first day we looked at it as a prospective location for this school - a weatherbeaten frame home with pear trees and yellow jonquils blooming in the yard. The first official School Board of the newly consolidated Silo School District was searching for a building site. They had a dream and most of them have lived to see that dream become a reality. The School Board and Community have overcome many barriers through unity and determination and you are commended for a job well done. I feel indeed grateful in having the opportunity to have shared in this task of planning and organizing with such dedicated people as those residing in this District, especially those serving on the Silo Board of Education both now and in the past life of the Silo School District's twelve years of existence.
