Class History In September of 1 954, we started our high school career with Paul David Fields as president, R. D. Smith as vice-pres- ident, Sylvia Bridges as secretary and treasurer, and Miss Kyles as our homeroom teacher. At the end of our freshman year, we had lost Charles Johnson and Davie Culberson, As we entered our sophomore year, we had as president Keith Andrew, vice-president Paul David Fields, and Betty Lou Johnson as secretary and treasurer. During our sophomore year we gained Nathan Myers and lost David Stone. On a trip to Raleigh, we saw a live T, V., program and toured many interesting places with our homeroom teacher, Mrs. Fitts. Mrs. Patrick, our homeroom teacher helped to make our Junior year a very interesting one. She was a reliable source of advice during our Junior play. Here Come s Charlie , an exciting comedy had as its cast Sylvia Bridges, Paul Fields, Howard Hudson, Charles Groce, Betty Lou Johnson, Larry K, Johnson, Betty Lopos say, Patsy Buckner, Judy Stevens, and Clyde T eague. Beckee Jane Johnson introduced the different characters at the beginning of the play. Our Banquet proved to be very expensive but more exciting. During our Junior year we gained Betty Lopossay and lost Sylvia Bridges. In our Senior year, we have been very busy with our annual. After many hours of long and tedious work, we packed it up and sent it to the press thus supplying old Silk Hope High with it ' s ' 58 edition of the Eagle . We had some very athletic students this year: Patsy Buckner, Howard Hudson, Paul Fields, Charles Groce, Wayne Lowe, Larry K. Johnson, and Clyde T eague were in there fighting during those rough and tough ball games. Mrs. Jones, our teacher has been very helpful and under- standing. To show our appreciation we dedicated our annual THE EAGLE to her. Armed with all these wonderful memories of our high school days, we face the uncertain futur e with all the knowledge we have gained in the past four years. Historian Clyde Teague 23

Class Prophecy As I boarded the plane for Kansas Inoticed that my flight number was 1958. It immediately brought to my mind my senior class in high school, the class of ' 58. I wondered if everyone else had had as interesting a life as I have had. When the plane finally left the runway the hostess brought me the evening paper. I leaned back, relaxed and lazily glanced over the front page. Suddenly my eyes focused on the headlines : ANDREWS OFF TO THE MOON . It couldn ' t be! But sure enough it was--my old classmate, Keith Andrew. After having read the article carefully I turned over to the sports section. There to my excitement but not to my surprise I saw that Paul David Fields is now U. N. C. ' s All American Basketball Star. As I turned the page my eyes fell on an advertisement $50,000 HOME FOR SALE . On reading more closely I sawthat Betty Wilson is selling her house to go to Hollywood where she will take Patti Page ' s place on stage. The face of R. D. Smith then came to my mind. I remembered hearing that he is now the best poker player and worst gambler in all Las Vegas. When I had finished the paper I picked up a copy of LIFE which was lying in the seat next to me. On the cover was Clinton McLaurin ' s picture. U n d e r n e a t h was the title PITCHER OF THE YEAR . I knew that he was playing with the Yankees but I had no idea he was that good. As I turned through the magazine I saw an article on t h e life of Wayne Lowe, the teenage idol of 1962. On the opposite page was an advertisement of HERE COMES THE NAVY , one of Hollywood ' s biggest hits, w r i 1 1 e n by Gordon Wright and directed by Howard Hudson, Staring in this production was Charles Groce. During the newsreel I saw Alice Dowd and H. W. Curl boarding their 50 foot trailer to begin their trip around the world. Beckee Johnson also in the news, is now an Army nurse stationed in Japan. A few pages over I noticed an article entitled What it means to be a Secretary written by Betty Lou Johnson, secretary for Clyde Teague, vice-president of the Ford Company of Silk Hope, N. C, It ' s really amazing how much thing s have changed in just four years. Why just the other day I heard that Judy Stevens is a fashion model at Patsy Buckner ' s Dress Salon at Silk Hope, N. C. As we landed in Kansas I thought of myself and my success. I was soon to take Wilt ' splace as an All American on Kansas ' s basket- ball team. Larry K. Johnson Prophet 24
