Your accomplishments have been many, your estab- lished Traditions will live long. My greatest desire would be to follow each of you to insure success as you discover the wonderful world of living, but this is a physical impossibility. Thank you for playing such an important role in my lite, and leven though l cannot be with each of you physically, I will always be with each of you spiritually. Sincerely, QW nl Maybe we all look casual and calm in these pictures, but it took a Conquistador photographer to get us to slow down enough to have our pictures taken. However, we were glad to relax tor a moment. After swinging brooms, mops and electric scrubbers, and after trembling into telephones, and before grade school classes, we deserve the rest. The arrival of the Neighborhood Youth Corps Program on our campus is a true help to many of us who dicln't have transportation and who couldn't find after school work in our own B.P. Some people say that money is the root of all evil, but when nations don t use money, they use weapons. We're grateful for money, and for our governmenfs understanding of the pressures today's world puts upon the high-school student of 1965. 1. 3' 'J an fe' UNDERGRADS OUR UNDERCLASSMEN have inscribed their own traits into the Seal ot Sierra Vista. The freshmen have become accustomed to the realm of high school society, responsibilities must be fulfilled. Remember . . . the Howdy Dance, Big and Little Sister Program, estoy estas esta, lockers, homeroom, apples, apples, applesauce. The Sophomores have developed pride and respect toward the spirited atmosphere of Sierra Vista by ioining school organizations and partici- pating in school activities . . . car washes, A square plus B square equals U square, boniour, assemblies, cut cards, room ll8. The spirited zeal ot the Juniors was chal- lengecl only by the Seniors. Can we ever forget Snowflakes and Starlite, college-prep. exams, class rings, Bloomington game, Semper fidelis, orchids in the ice box, Junior-Senior Prom, gra- cluation? 27 OFFICERS I DISCUSSING PROM PLANS are Junior Class l-lomeroorn Representatives Fran O'Conner, Gil Lopez, Herbert, Norma Gullixson, John Vergof, Leon Sopicki, Eddie Montoya, and Nancy Tomlinson. It is a song of praise heard all around Sierra Vista. Our three praiseworthy pretties are Nina Wynkoop, Secre- tary of Pep, Stella Perez, Secretary ot Activities, and Olive Vanselow, Secretary of Ways and Means. They have added, by their hours of end- less administering and assisting, hours and dol- lars worth of fun to our year and our lives. - W' Student Court THE DON'S COURT, the student body government of Sierra Vista, gives its members a chance to develop leadership and the spirit of cooperation. Making certain that its students are ready, to face this American Right, Our Sierra Vista Student Court provides experience which is not always pleasant. Administering iustice is not pleasant for the student iudges, but as adults that task will often fall to them. It was the biggest year for the Dons and the turn out for Pep Club reflected this happy fact. The bright and breezy members of this club came early to foot- ball games and wrapped the goal posts, they sold the programs, and they cheered and cheered and cheered. Their spirit around that fifty yard line let our Dons know they had fans all the way. DARLENE MARIETTA N INA GINNY ur Pepsters 0KAY DONS, let's really show our spirit, yelled Linda Harrer, head cheerleader, into the mike as she primed the cheering section for the next familiar yell. WE'RE THE CHAMPS . . . the crowd shouted enthusiastically, led by SV's six vibrant and vital Varsity Cheerleaders - Nina Wyn- koop, Darlene Osborne, Joe Soto, Marietta Minick, Ginny Taylor, and Linda Harrer, head. The Student Body of Sierra Vista reacted ecstatically to the sharp, precision approach of' our PEPSTERS, showing us they learned their lessons well at the National Cheerleaders School on the campus of the University of Redlands during the summer. They won four ribbons, three Third places and one Honorable Mention, in cheer competition at Camp, and their tumbling techniques showed what they can do in creat- ing a moving pattern of cheerleading. The role of our first YELLEADER, Joe Soto, cannot be over- looked. His willingness, ability, and support made all the different types of pyramid formations possible. Along with a very spirited year here at S.V.H.S., the Varsity Pepsters sponsored a smashing SPIRIT WEEK, held their first Pep Pot Luck Dinner, played host at the 3rd annual Inland League Pepster Luncheon, and attended the National Cheerleaders Association and the American Cheerleaders As- sociation Cheerleading clinics. Their motto is Keep 'Em Cheerin' and they did iust that by radiating spirit and enthusiasm at all the rallies, assem- blies, and athletic contests! ff YEL-'f . SV DON S ROLL T0 BEST SEASON EVER SPARKED by a great defense and a strong offense, Sierra Vista, in its first season as '31 four year high school, nearly Took the highest prize, that of the league championship. It was an uphill fight throughout the season, but the Dons overcame the tremendous opposition to rank second in league action. Losing only to Bloomington, in one of the most memorable games of this, or any other season, the key to the success of the Dons was their great spirit and ability to function as a team. They rose above mediocrity to become a truly dynamic team that will inspire future Sierra Vista squads for seasons to come.
