In the year nineteen hundred and sixty-one, Sierra Vista, home of the Dons, opened its doors to the first makers of its history. It was only a junior high, but we, the conquerors, had the determination and spirit to make it into a great school. In nineteen sixty-two we created many wonderful and surprising ideas as we made our mark, and our Alma Mater adoptedus as her own. Our gym was completed, our Dons broke into the Inland League, we held our first Harvest Ball and greeted Christmas with our Winterland Fan- tasy. In spring we ordered our class rings, applauded our first plays and heard our school declared a senior high. Now another unforgetable year has been completed. Throughout these pages unfolds the happy story of our third history-making year. To you, from the Staff of Conquistador '64, we pres ent the pictures and the words which we have assembled to help you recall the fun of it all. mi Mrs Frances Sample Mrs Marianne Johnson, Mr. Marvin E. Stephens, Mr. Tex Farr, Mr. Earl Peterson. Our gratitude goes to the rn embers of our District School Board. We are well aware that their active representation directs and makes possible the educa- tion and the enjoyment made available to our school district and, particularly, to us at Sierra Vista. Getting good teachers and efficient substitutes for the Baldwin Park School District an d meeting the rising cost of expansion, are just some of the many things for which we thank our District Superintendent,,Da.rcy A. Skaggs, Ed. D. , and his Staff. fion sr ! S1 i Q 1 Darcy A. Skaggs, Doctor of Education Superintendent Sierra W fa Bettering the student body, improving Sierra Vista 's scholastic and social opportunities, and helping each student move forward toward graduation, these are the goals Mr. Nechak set for himself when this school year started. We are proud to say he has accomplished his goals. We are proud, also, because we have been able to offer him genuineg student body support. Mr. Paul I. Nechak Co-ordinating Principal Sierra Vista lla? 6 Counseling the ever-increasing student body was a task assigned to and ably handled by Mr. John Marlotte and Mr. Kosei Higa. We acknowledge the difficulty of their positions, and we are grateful for their interest in Sierra Vista's future. Mr. John Marlotte, Counselor Mr. Kosei I-Iiga, Counselor W 9 U Rc!!- 4 ab . . We Freshmen have become accustomed to high school life, and have learned that along with many responsibilities, there is also time for a lot of fun and fond memories. We are looking forward to being Sophomores next year so we can prove that our strength for S. V. is just as good as the other classes! Though our school spirit wasn't as high as we wanted it to be, next year it will rise real high. We will be sponsoring many events to raise money for our fund and also participate in many activities. Following S, V, 's newly selected Don, Greg Quintanilla, who had entered the arena astride a white palamino horse, our six candidates for Football Queen paraded in chauffer-driven convertibles. They carried bouquets of football mums and threw sprays of button mums to eager, shouting spectators. Wearing tailored suits of red, blue, black and green, they were escorted from the cars to their seats on the platform by the Don. These popular and lovely contestants were chosen by our Varsity Football Team, to reign over our last home game. Later the entire A, S, B, voted for the girl they wanted as Sierra Vista 's first, Foot- ball Queen. The day is December 6th, 1963.
