l am extremely happy that a teacher who has given so much of herself to Sierra and to her stu- dents has been honored at this time by the student body. In addi- tion to being an outstanding teacher of her subject, Mrs. Elayne Wade is a person who takes the time to let you know she cares. She has helped to make Sierra a better place for students. My sincere congratulations to her on her accomplishments and rec- ognition. Robert L. Eicholtz Principal The real teacher leads you to the threshold of your own mind, and therefore, to those students who thought they came only for a view, she gives a vision - not only of what life is, but of what it can be. In Th6I'lkS - - - . . . and in Praise! lt is a tradition to dedicate each volume of the Oracle to an individual who has contributed unselfishly to the elevation of the educational standards at Sierra High School. Typically, this person's sense of responsibility and devotion to his students and their welfare is unsur- passed. Schools are not built with bricks and books alone. They need people - People who have that drive and enthusiasm to carry on no matter what situation arises. People who are interested in the individual, not just a number that a computer gives. People who are willing to give part of themselves, no matter how demanding their time schedule is. Schools need these people who care. Flight here at Sierra, there is that type of person. Aside from being a very talented teacher, she is a wonderful human being. Always there when you need her, and willing to help just that much more at all times. Recognized not only for popularity, she has served the life blood of Sierra, her students, with sincerity, interest, and monumental effort in academic as well as other supplementary activities. In carrying out these duties, she has shown herself to be a person truly worthy of the respect which both her students and fellow teachers have given her. This individual has many talents other than teaching. In addition to being a teacher, she has served as a secretary at Whittier High School for one year, She graduated from St. Benedict's College with a Bachelor's Degree in English and a minor in Speech. She was also a substi- tute teacher until she came to Sierra in 1962. She became Department Chairman for the Junior and Senior English Classes in 1965. She has also been a member of the Alternative School Committee. ln all her years here, she has always worked closely with the PTA. She has served on many committees and has always been interested in extracurricular activities. She has even been an adviser for Fall Follies in addition to her many activities. For her work as a teacher and as a friend, she will be remembered by Spartans long after graduation has signaled the completion of their high school educations. ln recognition of exceptional service to the students and respect to the ideals and philosophy of Sierra High School, the 1978 Oracle is gratefully dedicated to Mrs. Elayne Wade, outstanding teacher and friend.
