East Lynne, by Ned Albert, a heart-rendering melodrama in the Gay Nineties style, was this year's Winter Play. Audience participation was encouraged, and cheering the hero, booing and hissing the villain, and sob- bing with the heroine added to the fun of the show. The cate- torium was set up as a cabaret, complete with a player piano and checkered cloth-covered, tables, at which the audience sat while being served soft drinks, chips, and pretzels by two bar- bershop quartets. Originally written as a book by Mrs. Henry Wood and later adapted forthe stage, East Lynne is still the most popular ot the melodramas and drew ca- pacity audiences during its three- night stand at Sierra.
