Baseball RICHARD LEON TOM REASIN SETH MARTY DON PRICE At the time the Oracle went to press, Sierra's Varsity base- ball team had a record of one win, one tie, and three losses in pre-league play. In the opening game against Whittier, the Spartans scored a 7-O triumph, with catcher Seth Marty hitting a home run. Against Warren, the Spartans lost after a hard fought seven innings, with a score of 3-4. The Cal Hi game ended in a O-O tie after continuing for nine innings. Both the El Rancho and Santa Fe games ended in defeat, with scores of 4-2 and 4-O respectively. Although the season started slowly, Coach Paul Ward re- mained optimistic and indicated his belief that future scores will be more favorable to the Spartans. We are looking forward to a fine year. The boys are short on varsity experience, but long on desire to win. Our goal is the league championship, but this will take a great deal of hustle and accomplishment, he cheerfully speculated.
