SIERRA 6 29 I4 I4 8 I9 2 junior Varsity Hoathzll The Junior Varsity team this season had a rugged line and a hard running backfield, both of which had ample opportunity to display their skills at the La Mirada game, which according to Coach Les Hufford, was the most exciting game of the season. A-two point safety on a blocked punt earned the Spartans an eight to six victory. At the season's end, they managed to attain the impressive record of five wins and two losses. The Cee team, besides giving many underclassmen an excellent opportunity to begin playing organized tackle football, gives the coaches material from which to train future Bee and Varsity teams. The team and both its hard working coaches, Mr. Jim Snowden and Mr. Eugene Leach, seldom receive the recognition they de- serve, but in spite of this absence of laurels, Sierra would be the lesser if it were not for the existence of such dedicated groups as this. The offense was sparked by the brilliant passing ot John Mele to his sure-handed receiver, Leo Camalich. This pair combined for more than ten touchdowns via the air route. The excellent defense was boosted by Jim Leech, Al Barrows, Ray Jessee, Bill Garcia, and Paul Roias. Under the leadership of co-captains Don Thornburg and Jim Leech, and the superior guidance ot coaches, Mr. Jim Naughton, Mr. Paul Ward, and Mr. Larry Le- Konder, valuable experience was gained by the Bees, many of whom are potential varsity players.
