But it takes a third ingredient, a catalyst, to bring forth the mag- nificent from the simple. Provid- ing this third ingredient is the purpose of Sierra High School's Art Department. Students are given the opportunity to create and express themselves in all media, including sculpture, tex- tiles, drawing, mosaic, and painting. Students have a chance to show their work and enter many contests which come up during the year. The country's his- tory, in war and in peace, is vividly presented by the capable instructors of the department. The English Orien- tation Departments first and foremost function is to orient and accustom the incoming freshman to high school lite, and to give him a solid background in the basic skills of English.
