IARSITY BASK1-E'l'BALL Hayes for twol Sierra s Varsity Hoopmen turned In a great practlce season thus year wlnnung 11 of 15 games During the Long Beach Tourney the Spartans were barely edged 60 58 by Long Beach Poly In one of the most excltung games of the year The team then took part an the Comp ton Invntatlonal Tournament After losung theur tlrst game by 4 pounts to Mlllukan 46 42 the Spartans won three stralght beatmg St John s 43 37 Callfornla 68 42 and Dominguez 49 43 to take home the Consolatnon Bracket Trophy The league season was an off and on affaur wlth the Spartans beating Glen dora by 13 In the flrst round and losing to them by 13 In the second Sierra players turned rn some great performances this year Forward Steve Hayes was selected for the all league furst team and was the leagues top scorer wnth 187 ponnts for an average of 187 pornts per game Hayes season record was 491 points for a 20 5 aver age Center Roy Simmons was selected for the all league second team Roy came up wnth 121 polnts for a 12 1 ponnts per game average and 5th place an league scoring standings Mr Jerry Hames E C2 G9 Bottom Row Ralph Davs Steve Hayes Paul Trullllo Duane Samples and Mr Jerry Homes Top Row Bruce Clausen Roy Smmons Joe D az and Glade Qu nney 171 18
