Jim Brown Halfback avi Rosemead players, ROSEVIEAD The Spartan defense and offense shared honors, each scoring two touchdowns, as Sierra won its first varsity football game. Both teams were scoreless in the first half. In the closing minutes of the third quarter, however, Sierra scored its first touchdown as Roger Mason intercepted a Rosemead pass and went 62 yards for the score. ln the fourth quarter Duane Samples scored on a 22 yard run. Joe McKay then intercepted another Rose- mead pass and made a 50 yard touchdown run. The final tally came as fullback Wayne Crowder went 63 yards for the touchdown. Sierra High suffered a discouraging O-8 record in l957, but came back strong in '58 to tie Arroyo and San Gabriel for the Sierra League title. The Spartans, starting off against always dangerous El Rancho, showed great promise as they were barely edged 14-7. Sierra football hit a new low in the second game of the practice season, how.ever, when the Warren Bears ran over the Spartans 25-O. ln its second meeting with a district school, the Spartan varsity showed evi- dence of a great future as it played the Santa Fe Chiefs to a scoreless tie.

The first quarter was played to no great advantage 1 0 for either team. ln the second quarter Sierra went 45 yards for a touchdown, with Larry Brunner going the last 12 yards. San Gabriel then took the kickoff and went 78 yards for their only touchdown. During the third quarter John Haddock dropped a San Gabriel back in the end zone for a safety. The fourth quarter found Sierra scoring its second touchdown as quarterback Tudy Barajas scored from the one.
