He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Dayton and graduate degree from Providence College. His service education includes Officer Candidate School. the Armed Forces Staff College. the Naval War College and the Senior Officer Surface Material Readiness Course in Idaho Falls. Idaho. Captain Weaver has served shipboard tours aboard USS RANGER fCV-61. USS LOESER IDE-6801. USS HORNE QDDG-301 and USS SELLERS QDDG-Ili. His Executive Offi- cer tour was aboard the USS FOREST SHERMAN fDD- 930i. In February 1983, he assumed command of the USS TRIPPE IFF-10751. During his tour, Trippe won the Battle E in DESRON FOUR and two Hook 'Emu Awards for ASW excellence in the Sixth Fleet. Following his command tour, Weaver was assigned to USS FORRESTAL QCV-593 where he served as Chief Engineer for two years. .fi 4 ul United States Navy His shore duty assignments include a tour in the Bureau of Naval Personnel, Washington, DC and later as personal aide to Commander, Navy Recruiting Command, Officer in charge of the 1200 psi Mobile Training Team, Charleston, South Carolina and as an instructor in the Prospective Com- manding Officer f Executive Officer courses at the Surface Warfare Officers School Command, Newport, Rhode Island. His most recent assignment was Commanding Officer of Fleet and Mine Warfare Training Center. Captain Weaver assumed command of USS SIERRA fAD-181 on March 17, 1989. He is authorized to wear the Meritorious Service Medal n with a Gold Star, the Navy Commendation Medal, Navy Unfit Commendation and various campaign and service medals. Captain Weaver is married to the former Kathleen Gerd.. ashfv of si. Paul, Minnesota. He and Kathy, a former Navyaf nurse, have three children: John, Christine and Jim. .-,N F Y 4.
