As we write the record of the year of '59 on the Scroll of Time, we choose friendship CIS our theme. Friendship is the greatest usefulness, the most open communication, the severest truth, the heortiest counsel, otnd the greatest union of minds. First the friendship between school chums in everyday student living- HFrom quiet homes and first beginning. The most powerful and the most lasting friendships otre usually those of the early season of our lives. Friendships between loved teachers through trying yeotrs- Out to the undiscovered ends. A friend should be one in whose understanding and Virtue we con equally confide, and whose opinion we con vcdue at once for its justice and sincerity. Last but not adieu, the friendships of the class of '59 - HBut laughter and the love of friends. It is o great blessing to have friends when one is young, but indeed it is still more so when one is getting old. When young, we take friends, like everything else, ots CI matter of course. Later we know What it means to have them. Let not the friendships we have formed here at Siena fade like the setting sun. Self-government is a necessary training in a democracy. Here student representatives discuss and solve the problems of student government at a Stuzient Council meeting. Possessing neither stern expressions nor square jaws, the senior members of the auxiliary hall guards prove that they do mean business. Our student government stands for self- discipline. It promotes a high degree of co- operation between students and faculty. It also provides opportunities for potential lead- ers. Through our Student Council, we help share With the faculty the responsibilities of high school government, and thus are able to voice opinions on different questions. To foster student-body interest cmd parti- cipation in the Student Council cm assembly was presented, freshmen met their Big Sisters seniors were introduced to college life, and the student body enjoyed Starlight Enchantment. Their pursuits are innumerable, their hopes abun- domt. They are potential journalists editing, headlining, proofreading, bringing to OH Sien- o:ns the best of their efforts. Blessed With clever imaginations and indomitable spirits, this SPOTLIGHT staff brought to us the unpredicta- ble dilemmas of Dear Emma, and the anticipa- tion of events through the Side Lines. Who gathered the Shekels that made your SIENAN possible? This Business Staff, Judy Coglianese and her co-chairmen, guided by Sister Mary Roberta. Any difficulties that arose during the preparation of the '59 SIENAN faded out when the editorial staff members viewed their masterpiece. Many hours hctd been spent in the Yearbook room producing this Hshocking combination of perfection and distinction. During the slow process of writing, setting up layouts, planning, editing, and racing to meet deadlines, the layout stuff really cht up.H The copy editor surveyed the situation with considerable disap- proval. During the entire production the coreditors acted just as anyone would expect twins to tht, they agreed on everything.
