FATHER HUGH HINES A Saint of a Man saint can be defined as a holy person who is patient and kind. Although Fr. Hugh Hines is not up for canonization - at least not to our knowledge e- the same qualities portray the man who has been both a good administrator and a friend to Siena. He has helped the school grow and develop in many ways. There has been an increase in the number of applications and enrollment, enlarged phys- ical grounds, more educational programs, and increased national recognition. Not only has Fr. Hugh developed the school in these tangible aspects. but he has also helped incorporate the Franciscan tradition into every aspect of our lives at Siena. Fr. Hugh is a visible component at Siena. He can readibiy be seen walking around campus, talking to students. and keeping the vitaiity in his surroundings. Fr. Hugh has always had this open attitude even before he became president. Fr. Hugh taught religion at Siena as well as holding other administrative roles. Such roles included Resident Director, Director of Health Services, acting Chaplin and assistant to the president. This diverse background gave Fr. Hugh a well-rounded basis on which to lead the school. Fr. Hugh has also been involved with many community activities. He has made his presence greatly felt both in Siena. in the community, and the ripples of his success have grown nationwide as graduates go out into the world. Fr. Hugh's humor, personality, and exceiient leadership abilities have made Siena what it is today. May his successor continue his lead and have the vision to take Siena into the 2ist century. first thing that pops into mind is the basketball team. They, of course, do deserve credit for their tremendous season. They brought pride and recognition to Loudonvilie. The name Saints, how ever, goes beyond the athletic department. There is a certain aura, a feeling that it brings about. What makes Siena different than any other campus? its the people here. There's a real sense of community. We rejoice together, pray together and mourn togethert There need not be a real occasion. If thereis nothing going on of any importance the people at Siena will find a reason to be together. There are those times when we gather as a large group: at mass, at games, dances, and parties. Then there are those times when the closeness of Siena is even more apparent. When someone you don't know says hello to you in passing. when you help someone with a tough course, or when you just listen to someone who wants to talk. That's when the spirit of Siena comes shining through. Like the real Saints, each one of us can give a little love to someone everyday in all we do. 0 ur theme this year is when the Saints come marching in.
