Runners have often been labelled as a crazy bunch of people who must be nuts to run miles on end. But, running gives you a Chance to gain a little peace of mind as an individual, while still providing the people who compete in the sport of Cross Country a chance to test their own abilities and hard work against other nuts . Running is a different kind of sport for a different kind of person and Bob Reilly, entering his seventh year as head Cross Country Coach at Siena College, knows this only too well as he has taken a bunch of nuts who run for different reasons and molded a team with enthusiasm and spirit to complete another successful season of competition, Losing early races to Hartwick and Oneonta State due to injuries, sickness and being just plain tired from tough pre-season workouts of 15 miles a day, the team later came back to defeat these teams overwhelmingly in the last meets of the season while also defeating other well known running powers as Colgate, Plattsburgh State and a first time ever, one point defeat over Albany State in its own invitational. The early season defeats did not dampen this close knit team spirit as they were able to place well in the meets at the end of the season including: 2nd place finish in the Capital District Meet 5th place finish in the 20 team field of the Albany State Invitational 4th place finish in the Upstate New York Championships. This was the 1976 season of Siena's Cross Country Team with all its good times and great people. And with this opportunity we, the Siena Cross Country, want to wish John Latino who was a good runner and a great friend to us all, Good Luck in whatever comes your way. 29
