for fr. n - the editors PLASSM NM RAH. It's usually the custom to say that four years at a college teaches it's students to think, learn and love . But this seems just a bit overworked, especially when those same students realize that it isn't quite true. So in some attempt at honesty, Saga '75 wants to recreate some parts of those four years, without preaching that they were the dictates of our lives. The class of '71 tof various high schoolsl entered with no novelty - it wasn't a election year, or a reunion year, or any other momentous sort of date. Then we went to college, and suddenly we were the class of '75. And now finishing, we are either asked What will you do next year? or What did you learn while you were there? Examining these will lead to as many questions as there are these same students, and none of the answers will be sufficient. Just as we didn't think, learn and love always, neither did we learn to do these things never. It's enough to say that at Siena College, we learned that there were such things, and we tried to learn when to use them. DEDICATION NOEL FITZPATRICK QFM. 1934-1974 The priest teacher and man who left us last September gave to us a spirit of achievement. His titles and accomplishments were numerous, and not mentioning them here is not to say we forget them. But some- thing more impressive Clutches us when they mention Fr. Noel Fitzpatr- ick - the strands of his memory are woven gifts of recognition that he left with us. A smile, a wave from across campus, or your name before he gave you communion are the things we remember He left Siena, but not of his own will - it's as if he were saying, till the last moment, HTogeth- er we are Siena With enthusiasm such as that, we could do no less than take both his example and his love He believed in the divinity of man - because God had touched him, he felt he should share that touch with others. It lives, then, even if he couldn't, and just as he enjoyed us, we enjoy again with his thought in- side ours. An old monk's poem expressed this, and he read it often, taking his confidence from it. 'Twas battered and scared And the auctioneer thought it scar- cely worth his while To waste his time on the old violin But he held it up with a smile. What am I bidden, good people? he cried. Who'll start the bidding for me? A dollar, a dollar, now two, only two? Two dollars once, two dollars twice And who will make it three? Three dollars once, three dollars twice And going and going for three? But no. From the room far back a gray haired man Came forward and picked up the bow. Then wiping the dust from the old violin And tightening up the strings, He played a melody pure and sweet, As sweet as an angel sings. The music ceased and the auctioneer With a voice that was qciiiet and low Said, What am I bid for the old violin? And he held it up with the bow. A thousand dollars, and who'll make it two? Two thousand once, two thousand twice Who'll make it three? Three thousand once, three thou- sand twice And going and gone, said he. The people cheered, but some of them cried, We don't quite understand What changed its worth'i Swift came the reply The touch of the master's hand. And many a man with life out of tune And battered and torn with sin ls auctioned cheap to a thoughtless crowd Much like the old violin. A mass of porridge, a glass of wine, A game and he travels on. He is going once, he is going twice, He's going and almost gone. But the master comes and the fool- ish crowd Never can understand The worth of a soul, and the Change that's Wrought By the touch of the masters hand. TO THE MASTER, AND FR. NOEL FITZPATRICK, WE DEDICATE THIS BOOK. JOHN SEBASTIAN 62 OUR DEDICATION BRUCE JOHNSON 1953-1974 BJ - A friend to all A cheerful hello a special way to brighten the day. We remember him because he could touch us or say our names or be our friend. He provided us with a constant inspiration; and only after his death did we realize how much he meant to us. He offered us love, and now we try to return it in the small ways left to those suffering a loss. With this in mind, we dedicate ourselves, the Class of1975, to Bruce Johnson. There were times when things were horrible, and then times U still here people shout Few l when things were wonderful. So in searching for a theme, we kept in mind something about bad and good, something that would describe the opposides we experienced. Jim Knust, Director of Student Activities, was exactly what a tiny, underated staff of yearbooks needs - he provided inspiration, assistance, and the technical knowhow necessary to deal with company admen, late pictures, and overinsistent photographers. The second person is Connie Owens, who never was too busy to finish sealing packages, rushing deadline material, or acting excited even though Saga 75 isn't the first yearbook shets seen arrive at Siena. Without them, much of what is here would not have been possible. We want the college to know that they were instrumental in helping Saga '75 get on it's feet. S 1 2 Where is my friend? The friend that I lost At the fork in the road That leads me to the Iifel live. Where is my friend Who knew me when? 216 . . . I long to hear his vonce again. Well, I wonder what he'd say If we met to-day. Has he lost his way, And does he need a friend? Does he feel the same When he hears my name? Does he ever wish We were together once again? The road took a turning, We keep living and living. But it gets lonely, Oh so lonely Now and then. Where is my friend? That friend that I lost At the fork in the road, And never, never found again.
