Foreword A fascinating pastime for many persons is reading what is popularly called whodunits. These books carry the reader away from cares and responsibilities and give him an opportunity to leave behind — temporarily, at least — the humdrum existence of a word-a-day world. At the end, however, all the reader knows is that someone wrote a good yam. The characters are not real. The situations are seldom true to life. At Lanier we believe that reality is often more interesting than fiction. Inasmuch as everything at Lanier is open and aboveboard, there is no mystery about what goes on each day. We are not concerned with killers who stalk their victims and strike and strike again, but we are concerned with doing the work we are supposed to do and with such problems as going to a game and preparing for a test the next day. We like to know who did a good job in shop, who went to the Band Banquet and with whom, or who played end in the game with Edison. We believe that a pictorial record of the activities of normal, healthy boys and girls in their work and play is more interesting than the fictional record of one or more human beings gone haywire. We present in this book a record of who did what — whodunit — at Lanier this year

View This old house has served its purpose; this old house will soon be gone. The building, originally used as a church, was a famil- iar sight just south of the auto mechanics shop. Later, when the property was bought to enlarge the school, it was used as a room for band practice. When, at long last, a new music room was started, this old house was moved to a temporary location to be used during the construction ct a new, modern build- ing. Band pupils have mixed feelings about the situation: pleasant anticipation of the new building and a hint of regret at the passing of the old. Mr. Sturchio and seme cf his proteges look into the future at the site cf the new band building. 4
