Seibert rqcfnunadlfz-alian To the Students of Sidney Lanier School As principal of Lanier School I am happy to be associated with young people who have pleasant things to remember. I will always look upon the school year of 1949-50 with greot pleasure, for I have been able to enjoy the new improvements made to the buildings and grounds, as well as the fine spirit of our student-body and faculty. The prin- cipal and teachers are always happy to be able to present opportunities for students to enjoy their school experiences. While school activities involve, and should involve, some hard work, the work is usually interesting and enjoyable. The atmosphere of friendly cooperation between the students and faculty will always be the most pleasant memory to me. May you profit by your experiences and carry away memories of happy days profitably spent. May you make lasting friendships and may you look back upon your achievements with pride. It has been said: A man's real possessions are his memories. In nothing else is he rich, in not nothing else is he poor. EX! amd. ' I'z':ffQf- f'fq5.f.f'23?5f?' 3' r:,:3'ie- 1 , I, , , Mr. R. H. The student office assistants do a great deal to keep our school running smoothly. These girls help in the main office, Miss Woodall's office, Mr. Tafolla's office, attendance office, Miss Shane's counsel.ng room, the clinic, and the registrars office. They give up their study period to do the thou' sand and one jobs necessary in a school of our size. They run errands, lo' cate students when they are needed, check lists, alphcbetize and tile cards, and guide strangers about the building. They learn to work with efficiency and tact. By doing this, they get special training in some forms of office work. A few former office assistants have secured good jobs as a result of this experience. 136 lvalianaf Jfamm Saciefq 5 NATIONAL I-IONOR SOCIETY MEMBERS ELECTED IQSU 'IRST ROW: Mary Louise I-Iernanclez, Mary Louise Teniente, Gloria Prado, Margaret Ortiz, Relugia Ortiz, Olaa flartinez, Isabel Aguilar LECOND ROW: Armandina Martinez, Dorothy Camareno, Annie Maldonado, Elifla Flores, Dolores Gutierrez, Viola Suerrero, Adelisa Negron 'IIIRD ROW: Vicente Lazaro, Iavier Gonzalez, Morris Gonzalez 'OURTH ROW: Pulquerio Silva, David Palos, Rernigio Silva, Eugene Carnlenas, George Maldorido, Robert Solis, Ienry Ziegler MSSING: Janet Canales, Lupe Corrlova,Mirierva Martinez NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY OFFICERS President Pulquerio Silva Vice President Iavier Gonzalez Secretary Isabel Aguilar Treasurer Mary Louise Teriiente MEMBERS WHO CONDUCTED INDUCTION CEREMONY FOR NEW MEMBERS 'RONT ROW: Myrna Pachecano, Worden oIServiCe, Mae Chin, Warden ot Character, Socorro Ortiz, Warden cl lcholarshipg Lily Martinez, Warden ol Leadership. At the beginning of the sea- on the local sports scribes predicted that the Lanier Voks would not go to the state finals. The 'oks, having courage and determination, made it appear for a while that they would go to ort Worth as City Champs, but Lady Luck did not smile at the Voks in their last game in which ney went under to a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Iefferson Mustangs 37 to 36 . These oys won the runner-up position in the finals and a trip to Fort Worth after defeating the best earns in the city: Alamo Heights, Brackenridge, and Burbank.
