Fourth annual homecoming was held on October 16, 1953, before the Piqua-Sidney game. Five senior girls were chosen from the entire senior class by the upper three grades to be in the Homecoming Court. These five girls were driven to the platform in shiny, new convertibles. There it was announced that Marcia McVay would reign as queen at the 1953 Homecoming Dance. The charming queen was crowned by Roger Stevenson and was presented with a bouquet of white mums by Barbara Allen, the 1952 Homecoming Queen. The queen's attendants were Io Bowen, Iudy Vordemark, Berniece Mitchell, and Elaine Doll. lerry Blake, Cole Tremain, Gary David- son, and Frank Dulaney escorted the attend- ants to the float. The queen and her attend- ants wore corsages of yellow mums. A Homecoming Dance followed the game. The Annual Staff, which sponsored the dance and the Homecoming, decorated the gym in tall colors. Bobby Wertz's Combo furnished the music for the dancing. HOMECOMING COURT, left to right: Gary Davidson, Io Bowen, Frank Dulaney. Elaine Doll. Roger Stevenson. Homecoming Queen Marcia McVay. The office now requires the serv- ices of many office girls to help take care of the increasing number of stu- dents. As rural districts have been added to the school system, bus drivers have become a necessary part of the school program. The curriculum has undergone many changes since the opening of the century. In 1903 the subjects offered were English, Latin, mathematics, phys- iology, physical geography, botany, physics, chemistry, commercial geo- graphy, bookkeeping, psychology, pedagogy, music, drawing, and rhetoricals. Civics was required the last four months of the senior year. 8 Ferguson Construction
