HE Student Council started out in the fall by having a very successful candy sale. The next activity was serving refresh- ments for the layers and cheerleaders dur- ing baslcetballaseason. This helped to pro- mote better inter-scholastic relationships. Starting the year of '53 a discussion peri- od was held after every Student Council meeting. This was to form a closer union be- tween the students and their government. Dancing instructions were a new venture for the council and students in Junior and Senior High. A Loyalty Day was held February 20. Students were asked to wear school sweat- shirts to show their school spirit. Everyone who did not have one was urged to buy a sweatshirt from the council. The last thing on the agenda was distrib- uting the Achievement award letters and sweaters. Sidney students work hard in hopes to win an achievement award by participating in extra-curricular activities. The Susquen- ango League undertook the financing ofa war orphan in France. 'I l . Last year Lester Trees and Ruth Hediger received sweaters. These awards are given each year to the boy and girl in the Junior Class who have earned the Highest number of Achievement Awards. 2. A dinner is held yearly to honor the students who have earned their Achievement Awards. 3. Moving-Up Day starts with skits pre- sented by each class. Next, honors are given, and Student Council officers for the following year are announced. After this everyone meets out on the front lawn for the Moving-Up Day Ceremony as you see in this picture. All these activities are part of the Stu- dent Council program. ,ff I r l

CHE Library Club and Council sponsored their annual Book Fair, held in the High School library. The theme for display and publicity was Christmas Shop Early. For publicity two mem- bers and their advisor went to WKOP in Onenta to advertise their fair. Also, displays and posters were put up in the school and community. The main purpose of this event was to earn money for pins, which each member of the Club and Council received. 21
