NN- ft 2 Y ...1 FOREWORD HE Army of today 1n thxs world of tens1on cannot emphaslze too strongly preparedness physlcal and mental fltness as the1r by words Schools now more than ever before bu1ld youthful bodles and mlnds for armles because of the ommous threat of war d01Ilg so hopefully for the obvlous and more lmport ant task of ma1nta1nmg the peace The s1m1lar1ty of procedure In Sldney Central School lS comparatlvely llke the Army Wh1le the Army has compul sory trammg wlth a mlmmum of two years Sldney Central has twelve years In the flrst s1x years of traxmng the drafted soldxers take the1r baslc courses Some go to Camp Sldney Center and others to Camp Masonvllle, wh1le the majorlty go to Camp Sldney Central Under the guldance and 1nstruct1on of the generals, these draftees tram to become good c1t1zens, to respect the1r fellowmen develop the1r mlnds and bodles to thmk and apply the1r knowledge S1x years later they recelve the1r transfer orders to move to the 7th D1v1s1on These soldlers begln to prepare for speclallzed tra1n1ng, so by the txme they reach the 9th D1v1s1on they wlll be tralned In greater use of the1r mmds and bodles to serve Intelllgently The teachers, l1ke the generals of the Army, skllled thoroughly 1n the art of lmpartmg knowledge, commandlng respect, understandmg and d1sc1pl1ne, gulde thls great Army through the fmal four years of tralmng These gen erals study each soldler to flnd for what fleld they are best sulted and tram them for the1r partlcular fleld of study After twelve long years of traxnmg our youthful Army, the 12th D1v1s1on recelves lt s dlscharge papers When they leave the1r camp, they move forward w1th muced emo t1ons Some are happy, some are sad, yet all are eager to march forward into new battle grounds wlth hope, determlna txon and courage that has been 1nsp1red by the tra1n1ng they have recelved from the1r superlor offlcers of Camp Sxdney Central School Carol Goldshlne Edltor xs- xs- f A A 75- e T- ,, , K ,, Ir 4 ? . rx' J :L .V 'V 1 4, 6 7 .Tr iq D I. il AQ' 5 ' . CHIEFS OF STAFF CX' HE Board of Education re presents the Joint chiefs of staff, the backbone of the Arm camp Their prxme duties are to co operate with the superxn tendent of the camps and the commander in chief of the camps and the many phases of operation and maintaining the camp district XE: fgjf iv COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF- General Pyle reaches for the 'Order of the Day STRATEGY OF CAMP Mr Rogers President and the Joint Chiefs of Staff plan the strategy of the camp The Joint chiefs of staff include Mr Lawrence Haynes Mrs Fred erlck Smart, Mr Carroll Ostrander, Mr Alton Clark Mr BenJ Ellis, Mr Ralph Pyle Mr J Edward Smith and Mr Edwln Rogers COMMANDER IN CHIEF RalphF Pyle B S M A at Gettysburg College, Columbia Un1vers1ty, Syracuse Umversity Experlence Mathematlcs, Soclal Studies Present Pos1t1on Supervising Principal OMMANDER IN CHIEF Pyle the supervisory commander who issues instructions to the gen- erals is responsible for the smooth operations of the Sidney Central School Districts. He is in charge of school transportation school bud- get school taxpayers and all school policies 6
